The Doctor Said ( continued)

by Dadfire — Read all 70 poems by Dadfire

A song/poem parody about a visit to the doctor, a cop, a judge and a courtroom.
The idea came from a cure in the country my mom called a "Hot Toddy" to cure a cold that involved a mixture of whiskey and sugar somehow.

 The Doctor Said

I woke up this morning, a' holdin my head
had this aching in the back o' my head
I went to the doctor and the doctor said
I think this aching's all in your head

I said doctor, I hear what you said
but I know there's aching in the back o' my head
the doctor said, I hear what you said
got to get this aching right out o' your head

I said doctor, i know what you said
can you fix this aching in the back o' my head
you gotta do something, I feel pretty bad
got to get this aching right out o' my  head

The Doctor said,
Get out the whiskey, get out the gin
add a little sugar put it on his head
the nurse got busy, did what he said
she put that whiskey right on my head

the doctor walked out, a' holdin his head
then the doctor came back and then he said
I got this aching in the back o' my head
I said to the doctor, it's all in your head

then the doctor sat down, a' holdin his head
the nurse said doctor, you look pretty bad
the doctor said nurse, I feel really bad
can you get this aching right out o' my head

The Nurse said,
Get out the whiskey, get out the gin
add a little sugar put it on his head
the nurse got busy, she did what she said
she put that whiskey on the doctor's head

now the nurse sat down, a' holdin her head
said she had this aching in the back o' her head
then me and the doctor, we both said
we think this aching's all in  your head

We said,
Get out the whiskey, get out the gin
add a little sugar  put it on her head
then he drank the whiskey, I drank the gin
and we got that aching right out o' our head

(Part 2)

now driving home, ran a light that was red
got stopped by a cop and then he said
I smell whiskey, I smell gin
I'll have to surely take you in

I said sir, I heard what you said
but I  had this aching in the back o' my head
I went to the doctor and the doctor said
he had to get that aching right out o' my head

Doctor said,
Get out the whiskey, get out the gin
add a little sugar put it on his head
the nurse got busy, did what he said
she put that whiskey right on my head

the cop said son I heard what you said
you can tell this story to the judge instead
the old judge listened to my story I said
he looked at me and shook his head

the judge walked out a' holdin his head
then the judge came back and then he said
I got this aching in the back o' my head
I said to the judge it's all in your head

then the judge sat down, a holdin his head
the bailiff  said judge you look pretty bad
the judge said son I feel really bad
can you get this aching right out o' my head

The Bailiff said,
Get out the whiskey, get out the gin
add a little sugar put it on his head
then I got busy, did what he said
I put that whiskey right on his head

now the whole courtroom was a' holdin their head
the judge said you all look pretty bad
the people said judge we feel really bad
can you get this aching right out o' our head

The Judge said,
Get out the whiskey, get out the gin
add a little sugar put it on their head
now they all drank the whiskey, all drank the gin
and got that aching right out o' their head

(the whole courtroom singing here in unison, raising their glasses, some
in handcuffs, all sorts of people, some  in suits, prostitutes, criminals, etc)

Get out the whiskey, get out the gin
add a little sugar put on our head
Get out the whiskey, get out the gin
add a little sugar put on our head

The end.

The cadence was addictive along with the repetition. The cure was as common as the rain and the effect was brilliant. I really dug this one. Great job.

Sounds like a good recipe for an interesting, curative drink. Enjoyed this romp through the maze. John
