Was appalled this last weekend to suddenly be aware in the supermarket of several women who seemed to be masking black-eyes and bruises in various ways; Is it like this in America?! Researchers say that the incidence of domestic violence increases at the time of Full Moon - so much for romance!
For all who suffer the tyranny of male domination - not all female, I know...

It's about self-image... brainwashing. It's easy to dismiss these women as "fools" who should just 'walk away'... as long as society instills this notion that a woman is only complete if she has a relationship with a man, this will go on. These men hate women... and they can spot their victims a mile away. Hit someone and it's a criminal offense called assault... hit your wife or girlfriend, it's called domestic violence, and the edge of it isn't the same. I'm always glad when someone keeps it in the forefront... good on ya, Kate! Your cheeky attitude here is well placed... that's what it takes. katy xox.
To understand why a victim stays in that situation, one must first understand the mind of the victim, that of the abuser, and the reason why he/she abuses. No blanket rules apply, but as a rule, one, or both have been victims of abuse at one time in their lives. The whole issue deserves a lot more public awareness and understanding than it receives. And certainly a lot more public involvement. Too many people sit passibly when they know this is going on. Thanks for this post, Kate.

These writes always put up the old blood pressure, as I've many female friends who endure this, saying "but he is so kind many times"
When really their scared to leave him, or they would rather get menally and phyically beaten, as they are brain washed no one else would love them.. AND THEY BELIEVE HIM!!!
TRASK, you are so right! Perversely, I know of the most beautiful Greek Adonis male whose whole health and psyche has been shattered because of the experiences he had when barely adolescent of being forced by his father to lie with prostitutes and "succomb" to their ways... all in the name of "growing into his manhood". Is it any wonder that blokes like him find it difficult to relate properly to women in a loving physical relationship? This is, perhaps, the other side of the coin I speak of here. I've known several women in situations like that. The men who do these things should all be caged. Sad thing is, more than half of the women who suffer like this allow this behavior to continue. I've heard how some women have so much time invested in relationships, that to give up on that, for them, would be worse than leaving an abusive situation. Still, as time goes on, more and more women are brave enough to leave those men behind. It's a slow process, but a growing one.

Yes the supermarkets can be very revealing when it comes to what's happening in the world. Great write.
it is appalling isn't it? your approach of the subject here is effective and really makes the reader think. the lines bounce off the page with the alpha/beta, little boy/little woman contrasts strengthening your point in a powerful but gentle way.

Though there be a touch of satire in this, Kate, it is a sad
commentary indeed regarding all males who think they must use
brute force to "keep their woman in tow." Yes, America is full
of the same kind of degenerate behavior, and even though most of
it can be attributed to Manic-Depressive illness (of which alcoholism
is a part), it is still undeserved torture for the females.
Girl...this poem is brilliantly composed! The "Alpha" and "Beta"
use are nothing short of gems. Kudos, Katie...I love your work.

Macho meaning of strong masculinity, any truly masculine man would never hurt a woman. Masculinity is so much more than size, strength and equipment, it's knowing how to love and honor a woman. My father always told me, only a coward, kur dog of a man, hits a woman. Good write Kate.
