... Just a quickie, people... am pooped. Will look forward to reading tomorrow. LOL Kate xx

FIRST LOVE

He scattered chickens from inside the open-top Daimler in the hay barn and cranked her up. Never mind the dust or pigeon droppings from the roost above; the cracked-leather seats were high and still well-sprung, almost enabling me to see over the walnut-fasciad dashboard and ocean-liner steering wheel. We drove a couple of miles, a heady spin round solitary lanes before calling cows home for milking; it was enough to make me fall in love – if men were like my brother. But later, when he locked me behind the door to the attic, leaving me in pitch-darkness and at the mercy of scuttling rats, I decided to be a nun instead; God seemed an altogether safer bet.

"Get thee to a nunnery!", Kate, lol! Your facility for detail and creating mood is what makes this prose sing...

My question is the same as Andy's. How did she escape to become a nun? Was this a mail-order bride type of situation? Surely sounds like it. This is fantastic. An entire story. Maybe even a movie in less than a page.

What a simply lovely scene you created, with such few phrases!

Kate, this is excellent prose with a lot of meaningful, descriptive words and phrases which only heightens one’s senses while reading it. Brothers are known to pull dumb stunts … lol. Glad you made it out of the attic. Thanks for sharing it. Take good care and be well.

You made me laugh out loud, Kate. This was a total delight to read. I jumped right into your verses and was right there beside you..until the attic part then I had to come back to reality. Sleep well and enjoy your day tomorrow.
Take care,
Sherry

That was a very romantic (men love cars) and tragic (locked up with rats?) tale, Kate. Novel there somewhere.
