MATCH

Swallowing each other like Russian dolls,
coupling up like trains;
like budded blooms
compact together,
we breathe between tight sheets –

ours an inspired exchange
like rings that band a marriage bed.

Presenting a collage like Escher –
your burnt cheek of shame,
my elbow of grief,
her backbone of happiness,
his nipple of supplication –
we carve together our
totem of words.

One on top of the other
this household displays
its varied face
of idea, belief and significance;

each poet is kindling in the pile
and should match be struck,
we burn –

become powdered sands
of unseen time
scattered by hands
of winds displaced.

Stike-a-light girl, you've gathered some wonderful kindling here, the imagery is a flame in itself, burning into the sub-whassit! (spelling not upto scratch this morning lol). Me thinks, reading Sylvia Plath has had it's desired effect upon you. Wonderful Kate.

This is so powerful in imagery and meaning, Kate; and symbolic too, I believe. I particularly love this:

"become powdered sands
of unseen time
scattered by hands
of winds displaced."

Thank you for sharing your gifts. Love and peace to you,

Regis

crisp, crystal clear imagery ... no doubt, the sparks from within the flames from which poets burn with decorate the creative skies and allow variety to consume their thoughts ...

Good God, Kate, this is absolutely stunning in significance and meaning. Beautifully, richly illustrated, powerfully penned, you've issued a powerful challenge to all of us Poets; for that, I thank you. BRAVA!

AH...Kate...a Den homecoming...you light the bonfire...the sulphur derived from Gaia, her fiery element that keeps this game of rivalry lit and challenging. Winner takes the Totem, but it is a traveling trophy that is passed on to the next poet and the next poet and the next poet and on and on and on. Let the game begin! Bang the gong!

Don't Burn yer side. Strike a light girl,

play with matches and you'll get burnt.

A very powerful subtext. But it's great that one learns from others perspectives, as long as one is open and able and don't mind change or changing.

The goal and the aim remains the same, but plans can and do change...

Become powdered sands...not a bad lot to be intermingled with, I would have to say. That would be sand rich in thought, expression, and deep emotions; fertile soil able to grow all that can be imagined or dreamed. I wonder if it might become like fairy dust as it blows in the wind, magically enchanting and inspiring all that it settles upon...The concentrated essence of creativity, whispering on the wind. You have my mind wandering along paths where fables are born with this wonderful write, Kate. I really love this poem, another one of your bests.
Take care,
Sherry

well i sometimes feel this list does turn into a bit of a ghost house
with its different hauntings, my main observation being that literary integrity & literary honesty dont seems always to go together woth them, this work does present for me images on different levels but my overall impression is that it is well written unconscious realism, nevertheless v well done saludos

Mea Culpa, as they say when all words fail to say, "I am guilty." Yes, I have played with the match. I've been sharp-tongued with a few partners on this site. I have let their views and words get to me. And, yes, it could ignite somewhere least suspected, and the price would be high. But, I must ask, "How do we maintain quality and fair participation in this site when there is glaring evidence of singular and mundane use of of it for special axes to be ground?" However, I will be on guard... because that is the least I can do. Again, thanks. - Bill

It only takes one to light the spark of conflagration, that sets man against man, poet against poet, all the age old sins and omissions, that create conflict and despair !
This is a diplomatic and sagicious write that distinguishes the elements of cohesion , and the elements of mutual distrust !
Well crafted Kate

Sweet musings and poetic license build upon the funeral pyre that always sits just in the wings for us poets and mind writers. You captured this well and the spirit I am in drank in each line as if it were a tonic.
