... Yeeeeeeees... I know!! There are no end of ripostes and retorts I am setting myself up for here! :)) K xx

INTERSPACE OF WORDS

Silence is what I like best:

listening to the shrugging
of the overcoats of words
flapping in the breeze,
shaking off the dust
and heavy snows
of misinterpretation.

Or I like to watch the light reflect
off sleekly tanned syllables;
the gloss and sheen of smooth vowels,
l-o-n-g and s-l-o-w
when they think they’re naked alone.

And hushed verbs at rest, lolling inactive.

The language of quiet
is what I hear most –
the sound of the voice asleep.

I love to investigate its meaning,
prise apart its teasing as it
cajoles my mind to play;

I grease it down, strip it
to its artful true intent,
applying it liberally to heart
and mind and soul.

Strong and absent
are how I like my words best :))

I envy those who are able to do justice to your words with a few select words of their own. I so often find myself feeling inept when I read your brilliance. What could I possibly say that would do this justice? You're the star Kate and I can only lift my face to your light and smile.
With admiration.... Chanti

What can I add to Jude's apt comment?
Nothing much, except that this, too, was one I enjoyed very much.

Dang, Kate, I wish I had your gift of words. What imagery! What emotion! What talent! Am I turning green? Perhaps a little. I am in awe of your poetry, my friend. What genius! BRAVA, take a well-deserved bow, I love this one!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

"listening to the shrugging of the overcoats of words" That line is brilliant, Kate. And so is the rest of the poem. You never cease to amaze me with the way you express yourself.

I think I like those sleekly tanned syllables the best, especially when they are strutting around on the beach.

This is a challenge poem that had to be written. I'm pleased that you did the job for us. It is timely and superb in compositon and intent. An English Major, I should have become long ago! Sighhhhhh!
A simplistic mind remembers a farmers sign, and its seveal changes for clarity:

Thank you, Bright One! - Bill

It took a hundred years to connect a billion people by wire, but only a cyber-second to connect a billion poets to hundreds of your poems, Kate. I am trying to visualize what the sensuous vowels look like naked and tan...bare-ass syntax lounging in Adirondack chairs, silent, raw, and thawing misinterpretation...intervening in space!
