WHAT ARE THE CHANCES?

What are the chances:

a needle and no thread?

That bothered my tidy mind;

I was in danger of worrying

the problem into a bigger hole.

He plucked a hair from his own head,

Here, he said.  On me.

What are the chances?  A needle

threaded with a single hair –

his hair – to clean me up,

restore my squeaky image.

He watched me sew

my laddered leg into

its prior state of

Nearly-Nude perfection,

then told me he preferred

the ladder, which was, he thought,

going somewhere…

He liked where it was going,

where this was going:

Somewhere.  Else.

I carried his glistening pale

all afternoon; glass brightened

with each sweep of his lathered arm,

his hair smelling of Speedshine

twenty feet above where

my ladder stopped and his

began:

the middle of somewhere.

Else.

What are the chances?

Odd, to say the least.

Love your sharp-witted ways and tuned-in tone. You express both the familiarity, comfort and overdose of two too long.

Kate this is priceless. Sometimes our frayed lives are the things that appeal most to those who love us, along with the destination of our "ladders"

Odd, to say the least.

I guess that's a 50% probability, I would have taken even. Patrick

funny how we complete eachother sometimes, two souls, two lost halves searching for the other, and when they are bonded, against all odds, ladders like beanstalks sprout into the heavens. tremendous poetry kate!!

Kate, "What are the chances", that fate is suspended by the thinness of a mere hair? The ladder of opportunity to a view if you will. Only the bottom and top rungs have significance to the effort. A point of the effort's initiation and its intended end point, the goal. There is a humorous aura about this philosophical exercise my dear friend. You have raised my curiosity and urged me to imagine. I bid you love and peace. Jon Michael

Kate, the chances are that one of you or both will
fall off the ladder. 'Course if you're inclined to
be careful, you just might be saved by, uh, a hair?
I like it when you're funny. -gene.

Once you are on a ladder there is either up or down and no where else. The ladder is your mate and fate.

the wit and resonance...there's cheeky possibility
here, suggestiveness and dare i say... promise.

Gotta like a guy who loves the ladder / Sounds like he also had a bit of wanderlust always carrying on and on about "Else." There are such people in this world. That's not to say all that much about his choice of hair oyl. All in all, I think the chances were . . . er . . . favorable, Kate.
