" Pretty paper, pretty ribbons of blue

Wrap your presents to your darling from you

Pretty pencils to write I love you

Pretty paper, pretty ribbons of blue "...........Roy Orbison

..........................................................................................

I saw a wild lilac tree today

as I strode along the sun bleached pavements

jutting out obtrusively, from the concrete jungle of concordia

purple spires protruding majestically

from an umbrella of green foliage

and I thought of you Mum and Dad

when you's lived amongst the living

and I played in your garden so rare

safe and secure under your watchful eyes

with my brothers and sisters when we were all young

and we never had a care in the world

the bills weren't our responsibility

and Santa Claus was such a dream

a hedge sparrow emerged from the bush

with a small twig in its fine beak

intent on building its hidden nest

within the protection afforded by the canopy

a mother's love is priceless

and a dad's reassuring hand a treasure

and wherever I will go in my quest

I will always thank them for the precious gift of life

and much more importantly to the point

the immeasurable values taught to this obedient child

A very scented poem of reminiscence, Peter. May all of your days be a boquet of lilacs wrapped with that familial ribbon of love and guidance. Blessed Be.

Peter,

You bring back memories of the lilac bush in our backyard in Ohio! A lovely fragrance from the plant, and from your beautiful words; thank you!

An obedient child is the oil of joy to a parent. And to honor our parents is the first commandment of G-d that came with a PROMISE from the Creator to those children who do love and bring honor to their parents.

EXODUS 20:12
"Honour thy father and mother: THAT your days may be LONG upon the earth which the Lord God gives thee."

Good day my dear friend, good day.

Roy Orbison and Peter Paton, a hell of a team, and that's a fact. The more I read of your excellent poetry I am delving a little deeper inside this guy call Peter. I like what I am discovering. this poem. Tender and reminiscient of life gone by and your lovely tribute to Mum and Dad. Excellent and moving.

Sweet Peter Paton, today your pen is bittersweet....and painfully beautiful. Lilacs abound in my own backyard, fully a-bloom! The fragrance is potent;it has seemingly carried you, along with its scent of nostalgia, back to your childhood...........my heart to yours, in the loss of your precious folks.........i understand, i was an obedient child, as well. They obviously did a magnificent job raising you, Peter. Your rich flowing robes are multiple, and magnificent. love & prayers ~ rhonda

Beautiful verse and flowering tree. I've never seen a lilac tree before. It looks kind oflike a hydranga bush from down south here in the states....in any case your verse and memory is a dear sentiment of love.
