When I want to understand what is happening today or try to decide what will happen tomorrow, I look back.

Omar Khayyam

.........................................................................................................

I wander the dusty paths, of long forgotten times of recall

revisiting the old ways, when my mind was searching for it's soul

weeping willows bowed and arched, welcoming me back home

but all around the unnerving landscape, there is not a single sound

familiar and loved voices are hushed, their spirits vanished like the mysterious breeze

and the squirrel dancing on the pine tree, is not the one I recall before

I lean alone on the perimeter fence, watching the river thunder and roar

my heart sends out its signals, alas no one is listening anymore

the ground is shifting below my feet, a sense of detachment from reality

a darting kingfisher flits along the rocks, as my memory reminisces the past

the old glasshouse and potting shed, are now removed from my vision

fraternal peals of laughter, are all just now a distant melancholy echo

those glorious days of my apprenticeship, when I mastered all the skills

I retrace my former steps, following the awesome and towering yew hedge

shards and remnants of forgotten crafts, lie broken and strewn in fragments

the puzzle of life confounds me, as a watchful raven espys me from the tower

I am more aware of my mortality, as everything has its season to die

the butterfly tree is blooming, and the wallflower are a riot of color

my senses are swimming with conjecture, as a dragonfly moves between the iris

and I know not what is coming, for destiny has its own bewitching smile

How strange it must have felt to be the intruder on once familiar soil, as memories of times past rush through your mind. I've had experiences simliar lately when I return to places I have been or programs I have developed and see then in a shambles, almost regretting that I trusted others with their care, yet realizing that I had done what I could and it was time for fresh ideas and new horizons.

Your breathtaking photography is a gift,in and of itself, Peter! How truly talented you are, in manifold ways!

This photo actually made my heart ache, Sir Peter,
as it drew me inside it's verdure...it's a tranquil place, a place much like where my father grew up, and now lies.

Then, I began to journey through your words, absorbing them, and
I could not help but acknowledge that they are similar to his own, providing an uncanny sub-journey for me!

Like you, like Richard.............mentally and spiritually, we are on the same level.

Thank God for Christ...thank God for you

Esteemed Poet ...

You and I have been in the same place mentally and spiritually lately! My wife and I, just last night, over a glass of red wine in the backyard, were pondering the fragileness of life and how tenuous things seem at times. We were talking about what often reveals itself as the meaninglessness of living and the inability for so many to connect, and relate, and breathe life into one another.

It was resolved though in our strong faith, and left in the hands of our blessed Creator.

Peter, your poetry is always, remarkably, an amalgam of sharp perceptions and colors tying together the spiritual and physical.

A rare gift!

Your insights into the simple things around us, the normal things, always leaves me moist with the sweet essence of being in the soft, but invigorating, showers of wisdom and love from an insightful and learned man.

I come away from your Den always enriched and edified. I pray God's richest blessings on you this day Sir Peter the Poignant!

In fraternity and poetic vision ...
