The holocaust is one of the darkest chapters in the history of mankind. It is also a horrible testament to the fact that greed and hate will rule this world as long as we allow ourselves to be controlled by any entity other than ourselves. For this reason we must never forget. Pierre.

If I may, I will add that two wrongs don't make a right. I cherish an old episode of the Waltons where the episode dealt entirely with the German Jews and Nazis and the preacher on Walton's Mountain held a German book burning of Mein Kampf and all other German books to retaliate against the German burning American books, and John Boy Walton furiously stopped the book burning when he picked a German book out of the fire that the preacher had thrown into the flames. John Boy asked anyone if they could read German and one lady courageously stood up and read from the book and it appeared to be the German Bible. Ignorance and supremacy evilmastered and still today, we can't account for that blood, or those gold teeth pryed from the mouths of the dead by Hitler or the gassed masses. Holocaust is the reason why we have to appreciate true rejoicing apart from deep sorrow. Thanks for sharing your friend Trevor's accurate poem, Suzie.

The pain of that debacle and all the ones of it's nature such as the genocides in our so called modern day world do cause great pain to people with hearts every where. Your words are a great reminder to never forget or let our guard down so perhaps somehow though we cannot stop perhaps we can slow down the rate of incidences.

I pray such madness never again returns but we must be vigilant,

Six million accounted for by name. I have always been wary of those numbers. I often how many were eliminated in their homes by their invaders, how many were murdered in flight from their impending doom. I believe six million is a relative number to help form the malicious content of covering up the eyes of humanity with free blind-folds any one willing not to look at the entire scope of the exterminations. The Nazi regime was the ultimate lie against the life of humanity. We all belong here on this earth and we all are part of one another - bound to one another in the sacred breath of our Creator that gives us life. :)

This is an amazing piece, keep up the great work, I remember learning about the holocause after reading the Diary of Anne Frank in Elementary School I didnt understand the hatred then and I don't understand it now...

In my youth I recall my father's graphic books on the Holocaust. I also recall the sickening feeling I had in my stonach and the first time I had my own doubt about mankind and the monsters that were very real for the first time. I've never forgotten that first real feeling of disgust and helplessness. It became real for me later when I visited New York at twelve years old and saw people with tatooed numbers on their arms as I rode the subway. I touched back to those pages of awful pictures earlier and in my young mind I felt the terror come into me as I put myself into the fear of the faces that sat next to me on that subway. We can't forget a life's lesson that robbed so many families of love and history. I appreciate your poem because I don't want to ever forget.
