My ex said, to me- If your not happy with me, then go,I did after 19yrs.. but, he was an Alcoholic and lost his license 2X.s - and more.. like hardly a job for 2yrs.straight! I felt bad for him, and that is not love! YOu don't ever want Pity!
I guess I felt this more than I thought Fee, Thanks for sharing your heart! and Soul!

Well, glad to know this isn't about a right-now situation. But it's certainly one of THOSE moments (they hurt) ... when you realize that you do not own anyone - and promises are not written in stone. Nice writing, Fee!

at first this felt tragically sad but i too agree that as we grow--we no longer let these things destroy us for a time--i think we can also love till the end of time even though we let go

Felix, I think your lead in line for this poem is perfect. What might be heartaches now I was thought were heart-breakers. I don't think it is that we love any less, maybe we have just learned not to let it totally defeat us. Well said.

This one is very sad and you're so very right. The heart ages too and it learns to be careful each time it breaks. A seasoned heart can become cold after a while. Yours is still resillient Fee.
