What’s In A Name

I was given the name Felix Leroy Perry at birth. Felix after my father the red headed farmer who went to war, Leroy a name my mother heard on the radio and liked the sound of and Perry the Anglized version of my Acadian heritage name which was Poirier. Which brings me to doubt the truth of this, could a crest fbe forced to be Anglized like our family name was. Anyway(that's another story)...looking at this crest did inspire thefollowing little write that I hope you may enjoy.

In Days Of Old…

The family crest stands proudly o’er the years

In proud lines of heritage fought tears

Knight's crown depicting brave as seen

The flowers red of France and Irelands green

Three lions herald soul’s fierce man

Holding fast the shield of orange and tan

In days of old I would have rode

Beneath this namesake banner strong

On stead of white, the shining knight

To challenge right from wrong

To rescue maidens fair, with golden hair

Entrapped in ivory towers of stone

Perhaps to slew the dragons beast

I would fight the fire breath alone

Crusades in foreign lands, by Templar’s hands

Would have been just another working day

Round table nights, and jousting fights

Wine and revelry the night's end to delay

Ah but I smell the pot, of coffee hot

Hear the children playing in the streets

To dream of old when nights were cold

Think I prefer most my modern treats

Nice, light and whimsical! I could see the knight in his shining armour, rumble of horses and the fire breathing dragon in the distance.

A great write here. Yes, I've heard many say that those must have been great times for men. I prefer the comforts of this life right now. I couldn't picture how we lived back then even though we ofcourse addapted well all considered. I like instant heat for my mornings and filtered coffee. Lady J

Fee,

What a beautiful Family Crest! My maiden name was Leslie (Scotch) and ours features the Lions in it, too :] I think you have done a fabulous piece here, that is equally gallant and interwoven with the colorful, historic threads, as the Perry Crest itself.

Love&Blessings, Rhonda ps. compliments on you new Bio-photo

I wonder what they will say about us in another 1000 years. My Irish crest stands proudly on my wall, we sure took a beating in the wars we fought, it's a wonder any were standing at all but we survived and at last we are free of the English yoke.

I am proud of where I come from too, my brother has traced our ancestry to 1600's. It's very interesting, but like you, I prefer my creature comforts!
