Just thinking back to that house I grew up in so many centuried ago, or so it seems...

Buttercups and Dandelions

Remember buttercups and dandelions

Summer sun warmth seemed to always shine

Momma would call from our back step

Come to supper Daddy’s working overtime

Macaroni and canned tomato soup

Our Heinz 57 dog sits on the stoop

Much laughter and yelling filled the air

When all us children gathered there

When supper was done before the fading sun

Momma would say one more hour you can play

Games of Tag and Rover and Hide and Seek

Sweet memories shared every childhood day

Sun fading now, again around the table all

Time then for school days lessons to recall

Then we’d watch a little fuzzy TV and off to bed

On bended knee we’d say what the bible said

Yes say our prayers kneeling on a bare wood floor

God bless all but Momma and Daddy for sure

Then into bed as Momma snugged us all in

To dream of things we’d love forever more.

The sweet nostalgia of this poem leaves me teary eyed. Nights of sitting round the dinner table with the entire family have faded in many of our lives, but the memories made there are still strong. Gorgeous work, Fee. Lydia

Hey, that was my room just to dad's left. Well, actually the window was over the stairs, but I slept in the hall at the top of the stairs.

I have to get copies of those Pics.

love ya bro,

John

Dear cuz this is so beautiful and yes I remember the games we played outside, there was always so much enjoyment and great memories. And yes I remember our mother calling us with a smile on her face. It was sad though the thought of going home after our play to where our father would be waiting for us. But the good memories will stay with us forever.

Love you
Selena

It is great that you have great memories like this to share with many who can't recall them. We'd played games into the night also but never would there be any laughter or fun such as you recall within those walls. Thank you. Lady J

Ah Fee, those were the days, weren't they? When the trees we climbed served as our pirate ship... :) Loved this. xox Missy

Wonderful memories, Fee. I hadn't thought of Red Rover in a long time. How much fun were those youth-filled days?! They were the best and thankfully, we keep a piece of them alive in our memories.

I agree with Elizabeth, Loved it!

Where we lived in northern Alberta, we did not have television. That happened when we moved to BC. I do remember macaroni and tomato sauce though; that was a staple along with homemade bread, homemade butter, and eggs and meat from the farm. I also remember hauling snow to melt for water in the winter. Running water in the house? Heck no. Oh, and we did not have a car either. Thank God for kind neighbours. Sweet memories, Fee. Thanks for sharing them. Love and best wishes,

Regis

Oh, Fe, this just FILLS me with warm, fuzzy feelings and memories of home. It's beautifully written, and overflowing with the security of your (and my) childhood home. You've given me a big smile and the feeling of having been hugged by Mom.

Remembering ...
Hey, you were luckier than I. It was come home do the homework, dinner, dishes, finish homework and if lucky watch a little TV.

My life - a bit mundane, much like yours - but not too tame!

The games we played with total abandonment were always riotous and exhilarating fun. Oh, to be that carefree, again.
