If trees could talk imagine the stories they would and could tell...

My Oak Tree Diary

By: Fee

There’s an oak tree in my back yard

Kind of bent and twisted from the cold

Lost a lot of branches over the years

I guess that happens when you’re old

There’s a rope hanging from a branch

Where a tire once used to swing

A rusty hook halfway up the trunk

Where a wind chime used to sing

Hammock ropes rings around it

Rope burned the bark and stripped it bare

And I can still see faint initials carved

When young love once lived here

A tree house is in the upper braches

Where young pirates looked to sea

It had a magic window to wherever

At least that’s how it seemed to be

There’s picnic table of faded gray wood

Stained with all the colors of Kool Aid

The oak leafs built a cushioned floor

Where the little ones always played

A clothes line pully rattles in the wind

From when breezes once dried clothes

A GI Joe doll hangs from a parachute

How long it’s been there no one knows

Yes there’s an oak tree in my back yard

A sort of living history of time

I like to think God made it just for me

So I could keep good track of mine…

This is another one that makes me go, "hmmmmm, why isn't he sending these out somewhere to be published," and also, "God, he's so damn talented." I have a real thing for trees- i think they have such stories to tell, and i love to look at their beauty, so i really enjoyed this one. :)

Sounds just like my childhood backyard, Fee, except for two things. The tree was Mulberry (which still stands today) and my Fab (detergent) doll, Ginger, was sitting on the picnic table (probably getting her hair done). But everything else is the same, right down to the initials and treehouse. Those are fond memories. I'm glad you have them too. Wonderful reflections.

Fee,
Beautiful poem, a reflection of your past. I remember I used to climb trees as a child, I guess I was a little of a tomboy. I tried to keep up with my four brothers, do what they did. Enjoyed this, my friend.

Blessings and Love,
~Linda

After seeing your picture I figure that you are a chip of that old oak tree all twisted by cold and yet with tender scars made by many children's love.

There can be such kinship, such a connection between ourselves and nature if only we'd open our hearts and rekindle the bond that was forever intended. You have taken a sliver of that bond and presented it in a most heartfelt, reverent, nostalgic way. I very much enjoyed this lovely poem.

There is something about the strength, determination, age and resilience of an oak that causes us to reflect upon the depth of our life. You have painted an excellent canvas, Felix...colorful, reflective and etched with special memories time can never erase.
Take care,
Sherry
