Poem Artwork

the bard’s final church service

by: felix perry

thus morbid thoughts in musty rooms

dwell under sentence of father time

shadowed solemnly by thy past sorrows

sipped like the acrid taste of spoiled wine

whence the ebon ravens call the spirits

to breath frost o’er my last memory

aye the gargoyles sing my death dirge

hark to bear my own God’s inner misery

there on scribbled scraps of yellowed paper

held thy mortal soul’s tortured thought

lay dormant the beads of mother’s rosary

worn smooth from prayer’s forgot

mortality’s bees-wax flares and flickers

hallowed the full moon of life cycle turns

the hungry month of March cruelly approaches

sputtering out…the candle nay more burns

Fee this has the hint of the Bard himself.
The flow sets the erie mood with well chosen wording.
Great thought in this one methinks.
Beware the Ides.........

The Bard would be proud, Fee ... each word carefully chosen for full effectiveness in painting this dark portrait of "the end". Perfect language ... the grim, deathly emotion is palpable. Super write! Hugs, Lizzie

Yes, i can feel a classically gothic mood to this that matches well the picture. I am always impressed by the way you can write whatever style you wish to, really really well. :) Michelle

That's very stark, my friend. I do like it, reminds me of Stephen King. I also like the font. I'm not sure if you used this one before. Great job! Missed ya.

I cannot say why, but I LOVE that title, Fee. And the poem? This is better than Shakespeare or Dante or Petrarch. By comparison, their lines and images were stilted and somehow out of reach, while your verse easily reaches me, right now, today. This one is so excellent Fee. Marcia will love it, and you might send her the pic, as well.

This poem has such a goth feel to it. But deeply interwoven is a lost soul fearful of what is coming. Needing spring to bloom in his heart to feel alive once again.
Just what I was feeling from this poem.
Very deeply written and the picture that inspired this poem is quite amazing!
Peace, love, and light,

Total gloom, remorse and bitterness of soul... now I need to read something UPlifting. Still, the work itself is enviably expressed with fascinating word pictures. Poor vacant skull, did you not know there was hope offered freely in Jesus?
