Winter’s Day and Warm Hearts
By: Poppy
I walked along the frozen shoreline
On a blistery Februarys winter’s day
Of my Nova Scotia homeland
In a little rustic cabin hideaway
Broken lobster traps along the shore
Heavy surf pounding in my ears
The sun on the Atlantic combers
Sparkled like diamond coated tears
To live here I counted myself lucky
This place where poets love to dream
Another mile I walked in this dreamscape
Of a Higher Power’s master scheme
I saw my granddaughter feeding bunnies
Red rosy cheeks smiling ear to ear
Five years old and made of questions
And so much with her I want to share
So holding hands we stroll together
The young warming the heart of the old
As long as I know she is close to me
I will never feel that earthly cold…
