I think we all have known someone like this and although Ms Murphy is just a figment of my imagination...my heart goes out to so many like her...

Poem Artwork

houseful of lost dreams

ruby red blown glass roses

in vases of depression glass

cracked China doll faces,

bells of age-tarnished brass

old seventy eight records

eight tracks and cassettes

dusty Maderia wine bottles

even forgotten cigarettes

love letters tied in ribbons

mailed from a far away land

postcards from a soldier boy

who once held her young hand

small fragile tea cups and doilies

old afghan on a rocking chair

close your eyes for a moment

can you not picture her there

RCA radio on the mantle shelf

soft music for long winter nights

leather bound books now mildewed

beside albums of old black and whites

packing a lifetime of memories

a houseful of lost dreams

into brown cardboard boxes

for the good will so it seems

then they packed old Ms. Murphy

who now can only dream

of her little home in the country

beside the small bubbling stream...

I wrote one similar, but not as fine, as this one. It touches my heart because this is the woman I will be - someday. Without regrets.

WOW! The only thing I don't see, is the old beaten scatter rug, under the rocker, whatever, this is Magnifecent Sweet Fee!
The reality is there in so many ways!
This is one of your best, but that's saying something... I love what you write!and how you write it!
Ms. Murphy is as real as any Mom or Grandmother, that was happy and had a life of sweet memories!
This also reminded me of walking through Antique stores, with the older generation by my side...

WRITE ON!
Warmest of Blessings and Hugs, Warrior Purple Lady SHEExooo

Fee,
Such a realistic poem. We all face this type of scenario. Reminds me of my grandmother. I helped pack her things. She had shoes and clothes with the tags still on them. She also had money cached in odd places around her apartment - which went toward the cost of her funeral. I take comfort in the fact that we are lucky if we can have the things we love around us till the end. Love and Hugs,
Sheila

this reminds me of my mother's situation Felix -- my father is gone and she has no relatives or friends in her peer group or generation -- at 93, they are all gone -- peace and love-- JMW

Wow Fee you have the emotions, the longing right down to the smallest detail. Brings back many memories of a time that once was, but has long passed....

Be always safe,

Oh my! This poem doesn't sound sad to me! lol! To me, it sounds like Ms. Murphy lived a happy life in a nice home in the country that she filled with things she enjoyed! Time and death eventually claims us all. Meanwhile, some folk would like to be like Ms. Murphy, enjoying nature's beauty, their loved ones, and their earthly trinkets, as long as possible! I raise my glass in a toast to Ms. Murphy! (smile)I think death is but a door leading back to from whence we came -- or a better place than this one -- or perhaps to heavenly bliss! Who knows! Exceptionally well expressed poem, Fee!

This may sound sad, but it isn't: a life filled with memories is not sad because it is not empty! Detailed description, that shows how much you observe the world around you.

I have dreams that never came true.
I am grateful though for those things and people which came into my life so beautifully, and such blessings.

yep some dream never come true
but they do seem to fade
in time like the idle objects they're
still attached to
Seen mant cases like this
Peace be with you

Fee,

Ms. Murphy may be a figment of your imagination, but why does she sound so much like my grandma? I'm sure there's a "Ms. Murphy" in everyone's life. I love the way you wrote this.

Amazing how you captured the nostalgia along with the sadness of a life that ended so lonely...with only the memories... How true this poem is... I see it every day with those who live nearby....and it's almost as if I'm seeing my own future as well... what happened to caring for those who cared for us? Very good and thought provoking as usual.. hugs, lindalaw
