Not a reflection of time but of a moment in time, as a gray cloudy day triggers a melancholly mood...

Silenced Heartstrings in Key of C

By: Felix L. Perry

That old, battered guitar sits alone now

Long silenced by its forgotten tunes

Only echoed in its mellowed sadness

By the haunting mourning of lake loons

His music finally faded into yesterday

Like aching dreams not meant to be

Now stark black and white reminders

Of a smile he still wished he could see

Now the empty walls reflect silence

Of the song that should have been

A heart’s duet sang on love’s own stage

If a twist of fate never came between

The final curtain is slowly closing

Time has taken from him all it dared

His frail heart grows weak and weary

Too much bitter sorrow has it shared

But somewhere, somebody loves him

That last thought comforts his mind

For that love is proof that he once lived

And in love left something true behind

How true the sadness in this, when silence remains where a song once was, one irreplaceable and never-ending its memory playing through your head even though you are told it should stop and the silence embraced. There will never be the same music again, only the sadness. Beautifully done.

A sad and sweet poem--especially the part about the loon's lament. Nothing in nature is sadder. The last two lines are the beating heart--thanks for sharing. :)

Fee, you have very tender, caring heart. Beautiful poem and yes, would have been perfect life, if there wasn't that little twist of fate...but I am sure you are loved and will be loved forever...

Yes, the mood is overwhelming and real, Fee. The last line feels like acceptance. Deeply penned. Love and Hugs, and happy Thanksgiving.

gray cloudy days offer the mood for much reflection and anticipation too -- what has been, might have been and may be all come together on those days and overwhelm the senses and imagination -- guarded moments we do not often openly share -- this is indeed a worthy write my friend -- Happy Thanksgiving -- Jon Michael

Love as something that makes life worth living and... this song seems to say that all the melancholy is gone when you know that have been loved, because that means that you really lived. Soft rhythm and words Felix.

I hear tunes coming from a forgotten corner of a room in shadows where memories hang like cobwebs disturbed only by the breath of silence.
Put a tune to it and make us happy!
