Hamilton Echoes
In a smoky room our family all gathered near
Shared laughter and stories as the smoke filled the air
Looked at old faded photographs of long, long ago
We were making lasting good memories of just being near
You know I sang a few songs with my brothers that night
We’d driven two thousand miles but that was all right
We poured our hearts out into a few old memories
Gave new meaning to Hank’s “I Saw the Light”
Strummed that borrowed guitar till my fingertips were raw
As long as my brothers and sisters were singing out strong
In fact I think I even heard the echo of two more voices
Maybe our absent brothers Jim and Bill were also singing along
Dear sisters Lou Lou, and Patricia joined in our chorus line
Someone switched on a microphone to increase the God awful din
We were just a rocking the building’s foundation
Now that little Kim had so gleefully joined in
We sang the “Little Boats of Newfoundland” for mother
Sang a Nova Scotia song called the “Atlantic Lullaby”
When we sang “Prince Edward Island is Heaven to Me”
In that room you know there was nary a dry eye…
You know I believe in my heart and I just have to say
I think our parents were looking down from heaven so happy to see
That family love is still a blessing to be treasured evermore
Until some day we’re all reunited and what a happy day that will be…
the photo is great too
