Immortalized by poets such as Wadsworth who wrote of the Land of Evangeline, the expulsion of the Acadians is still a sore point to many Acadians who are the descendents of the ones the British shipped out. On reading up on it I found that here in Halifax...Georges Island was used as a temporary prison until they were shipped away. I also found on the list of prisoners the name Poirier, my fatheer's origianal French name...

Expulsion

They marched to the beat of Thomson drums

Edicts read in language they barely understood

Prisoners under the shadow of political carnage

Forced with guns at their backs, bayonets fixed

Man, woman and child herded together like cattle

Beaten husbands separated cruelly from wives

Even children torn from screaming parents arms

Homesteads of generations burned to ground

Cattle and livestock confiscated, crops destroyed

From their beloved home of Grande Pre to Halifax

From Halifax to foreign lands around the world

The largest number to be resettled in Louisiana

Their crime to refuse to swear allegiance to a King

A King who was not their ruler by blood or birth

Many perished aboard ships, some escaped

But none forgot or forgave….

Felix, the Cajuns,( Acadians) are a fascinating group. Many great chefs, artists and musicians of their descendants live in Louisiana and many other parts of America. Aaaaaaeeeeeeeeee!(?). Interesting rendering and your ancestry interesting to my friend. May joy love and peace walk the trails with you. Jon Michael

Well penned, my friend. And you are absolutely right, they don't forgive or forget....a lot of Acadians, especially in New Brunswick, refuse to let the past go and it's creating a growing rift between the English and French. I am Acadian decent myself, but I don't feel the world today should pay for the mistakes of yesterday.

Hugs,
Anna

So much of the history of mankind truly is a horrid one, and we never seem to learn very much from it. I was also struck by the fact that many of your lines could apply to many other peoples as well, including the original inhabitants of North America - the Native Americans.

You have written a mind blower, Fee..We should all be aware of the injustices and terrible acts that happen in the past...Alot of our history books, don't depict any of the "real" history at all..

Amazing poem...

Peace, love and light,
Amber
