origin of me

Hello

 

I come from a world

of men who have seen

combat and survived.

The wounds that remained

behind their eyes. 

Of dark journeys 

to the edge,

of doorless

imprisonment.

 

I come from power

and from risk

I come from powerlessness

and questions asked

before my birth. And hurt.

 

I come from fierce love

of those who valued me, 

I come from cruelty

from others. 

 

I am a warrior

Standing straight,

my hands and arms

embracing fate, 

and all the places

I have yet to go, 

 

I come without control

into a world 

of sorrow and growth.
