Honor Bound

The cold chill reminds me that I've slept in snow
The distant report of echoed popping calls me upright
My hands creak open as I search for my comfort
The frozen metal scolds as I wrestle it to useful
I am here now, surveying the surreality of this Dante scene
The whistle of my mortality shakes my feet to life
I am near death, always near, whether avoiding or delivering
I turn my thoughts to the killing and I write a new chapter
