Just a few thoughts that I needed to say.

Blind Survival
by Barbara Lynn Terry

When a child acts oh so nice,
But mother's stares are cold as ice,
What is the child supposed to do,
When mother says "you cannot be you?"

Why does a mother to no good, end
The child's life when mother does send
The child away, to abandon and disown
For no good reason of her own?

Why does a mother send her child
Into the lions den in her guise and guile,
Of pretending that "help" the child needs
When all the child wants is mother to feed
Her with love, acceptance and care?

Why is the mother so heartless when
The child is beaten, raped and abused
And tells mother of it all, but then
The mother refuses to listen, and used
Every trick in the book to keep her child away,
From her each and every day?

All the child wanted was to be loved,
And not abused and shoved
Around from the will of they,
Who wanted only to ruin her day,
By raping her in every way,
And kicking, and beating so she wouldn't say,
That this is what they did to me,
Because I am the girl I so need to be.

This all went on for almost six years,
And the girl endured it through her tears,
Pain, and suffering, until one day,
She decided that she must die,
Rather than live this abusive life.

She used a razor blade to make the cuts,
On both her wrists, because in this rut,
She could not go on, but was caught,
Even tho she valiantly fought,
To end her life of abusive strife.

A while later, she tried again
To poison herself, but it was in vain,
As she was caught once more,
And they tied her very sore
Arms to the bed for two weeks,
But always her mind would seek,
A new and different way,
But they held her at bay,
By watching her every day.

She made a promise to herself,
That she would not end her life,
By killing, but would write about the strife,
And would forget about the knife,
She wanted to use so she could end,
The life her mother sent her to to fend
For herself, and come what may,
Her mother was very glad that day,
She sent her daughter away.

Mother refused to believe that in me,
Is the girl I so need to be,
And that I only wished that she would see
That her daughter I so needed to be
With acceptance, caring and love.

But mother just sent me to hell,
And there was no one I could tell,
That I had done nothing wrong.
But now I go on, my life's goal,
Will be complete and whole,
And I will be this girl in body and soul.

How did I survive all of the abuse and degradation?
I simply put it out of my mind as an aggravation,
I simply was compelled to do,
But I will still remain this girl in my soul,
No matter what they think, say, or do

To me, I have been through it all before,
And for me I know what is in store,
From those who are so blind,
They cannot seem to bind
Their hatred and dislike for me.
But I will be this girl in me,
No matter what they cannot see.

This is not a trivial revival,
But pure, blind, survival.

Barbara Lynn, I stopped by to read the newest stories and poems you've written, this one is so sad, yet it shows the world what incredible strength you have. Yours is a kind heart, and deserves happiness. So, this New Years Eve as it approaches midnight (it's 11:52pm by my clock), I wanted to visit and wish you a wonderful New Year, and a wish for many more.

Keep writing, it is a treasure that you share with us.
Jill

I certainly can't speak for your mother, nor will I try to defend her, Barbie, but perhaps in some twisted way, she believed that she was sparing you from yourself. I am sure that she felt as though she had done something to make you "this way" and so she made it her mission to convence you that you were not that girl you knew yourself to be. I don't think parents ever take this kind of news easily and I am also goign to guess that many if not most never accept it either. You have chosen a difficult path, Barbie and it is one that you are probably going to have to walk alone if you ever want to reach your goal. Merry Christmas and I pray that in the New Year all of your dreams will come true.
Take care,
Sherry

Barbara:

There is powerful emotions in this one, and I can understand where it is coming from. In life, we often craved for something that we don't have. In your case it is your mother's love that you craved.

I don't know your mother, but I must give you a bit of advice, (if this is what it is at all) that you don't need another to approve your existence - no, not even from your mother.

I must say to you that "Do not look for love and approval from a person who has no heart, for you won't get the love you deserve."

Just always be very sure of yourself and forget what you were before. From now on only look at yourself for being you, and from now on you are who you are, and thank God for being you.

You have come a long way, and to die just because of your mother won't accept you is to die in vain. Stop struggling with yourself and your feelings. You are a girl, and no one can say otherwise!!!!!

Happy Holidays, and lots of love,

Sandie May Angel :o)
