Winner of the 2005 Johnny Cash Visonary Award,
she walks into the sunrise of her noble career,
with her head held high and children so proud,
of what their mother has done.
Her youngest sister, known as Crystal Gayle,
walks in Loretta's path, next to and not behind her,
singing her songs, and being accomplished too,
Crystal is proud to be the sister of,
the one and the only, Van Lear Rose.

Loretta had many challenges, many failures,
but she always came through the fire,
with a smile, a song and not her ire,
she sang of love, misery, and failed love,
she sang of success, she sang from her heart,
Her lyrics were soft, and piercing as a sharp dart,
but she always had a smile and a song in her heart.

The Van Lear Rose, of Portland, Oregon, sang,
of her past, her present and her future,
she sang of her family, and of her daddy,
she sang the songs of America,
in such a fashion, that she is one of a kind,
and so, to Loretta Lynn, the Van Lear Rose,
I say thank you for the songs that came from your heart
