Bogey said
"I stick my neck out for no one"
But I said I'd get her to the airport.

Nine AM
It's already hotter than Morocco
Blinding sunlight ricochets off her chestnut hair

As she gets out of the car
I get her luggage
Try not to look in her eyes

Her eyes

Two cool, dark lakes
Brimming with mourning
For something that died
Before it got too close to
Love

I put her bags on the curb
Helpful as a boy scout
Hold her for a moment
Hear her say thanks

Thinking she could be Bergman
In another time, another place

I can't think of an Academy Award winning goodbye speech
So I wish her and her kids the best
And then I leave her there
In the hot sunlight

In a few minutes I'm driving so fast
I could be traveling through time
And maybe I am
Since I'm leaving the past behind

This boy scout's done his good deed for the day
Now he's got to go back to work
Because he doesn't own a gin joint
And this ain't
Casablanca.

Ah but Casablanca is only a state of mind. Perhaps one day he will own that gin joint and she will walk in. The question is will Sam play it again?
