I was 17 but I can still recall vividly the day I fell off that bridge. My mother found out about it days later from blood stains on my t-shirts. She brought me to a doctor who said I should of had stitches. The scars on my back still remain as a reminder of that day...

Poem Artwork

Once upon a time, I fell off of the Marine Park Bridge in New York City.

My back hit a concrete piling and the results were not too pretty

I thought my life was over as I tumbled down

I scraped my back and hit the water hard and thought I would drown

The thoughts those last few seconds stay with me even today; I was at peace knowing all was well

I was unafraid as I imagined Heaven was near and was confident that I was not going to hell

Then, after the splash, I recovered quick and found myself swimming as fast as I could to dry land

I got on the beach, where a couple noticed that I was bleeding and my back felt like fire in the sand

These folks treated me with some kind of lotion that burned so bad that I did not ask for more

That was a long time ago, but I still recall it all, as I fell off the bridge near the rocky New York shore.

One Lucky Guy by Paul Lonardo

(Richard M. Feldman) Ever since I was a young boy, the only thing I wanted to be was a cowboy. I wanted to own and work on a real ranch, with cattle and horses. Especially horses. While I never became a cowboy, considering everything I have done

River of Memories: An Appalachian Boyhood by David Thompson

For a time, I perched myself on a flat rock, comparing my life with the Guyandotte River. Just as its tributaries replenish it daily, changing it in some small—sometimes great—degree, so have the day-to-day occurrences of life changed me. Like the ri
