Like an ostrich with his head in the sand This thing called texting can easily get out of hand.

Poem Artwork

We went ouside to the park one day

But we did not communicate...

It seems that texting just got in the way

This little flat screen fits firmly in the palm of a hand

It was meant reach out and touch someone

But it is not always so grand...

Texting, texting, texting....

Like an ostrich with his head in the sand,

This thing called texting can easily get out of hand

So we decided to go out fishing one day

But this thing called texting just got in the way

It spoiled special moments of peace and solitude

Took away moments of friendship

It robbed our time, it was so rude

Texting, texting, texting...

So what can we do?

This little device can overpower me and you!

Perhaps it's much better if we just shut off the phone

Then we can enjoy  time with eachother or spend it alone

Texting, texting, texting...

Like an ostrich with his head in the sand

This thing we call texting can really get out of hand.

Amen!

AND THEY SAY TECHNOLOGY HAS IMPROVED LIFE. WELL, IN SOME WAYS IT HAS...THE MEDICAL ADVANCES ARE ASTOUNDING. BUT, AS THIS WORK INDICATES, IT HAS INTERFERED WITH WHAT MATTERS MOST; THE BLESSING OF INTERACTING, ON A PERSONAL LEVEL, WITH THOSE WE CARE ABOUT AND WHO CARES ABOUT US. I BELIEVE SOMETIMES ONE HAS TO PUT THEIR FOOT DOWN AND SAY, 'LEAVE IT HOME, THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS BELONG TO YOU AND I...WITHOUT TEXTING!'. THANKS FOR SHARING THIS VALID COMPLAINT, JOHN. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

This is the sign of today. Everyone is texting everyone instead of meeting one another face to face. Special occasions and birthday cards are being sent to everyone through ecard. It just spoil the old reality that everyone would write a few personal words into the card so we can keep it and treasure it. Too much technology is not a good thing. It lacks the most important thing in life - a human's touch!

John Michael, what a fine expression of Truth you have penned here!
Like everything else, they start out for good, yet quickly become hand-held idols.. that even lives have been sacrificed to through driving & texting accidents, all in the name of "I must have that - or do that - now!"
Sigh""" Does no one ever stop to consider that Tecnology is the Mind of GOD - unravelling for the benefit of Mankind?!
I hope you are well, JM. I keep you in my prayers.
Love & Blessings, Rv Rhonda

Sadly the more connected we are via technology the more distant we become via direct contact. Great poem and very timely in today's World.

Texting is so impersonal and I too feel the same way. I finally stated if you want me to feel what you want, call me!

Frustated but glad you wrote it!

the world is truly changing
when we leave the house, realizing we left the cell behind
we rush home to retrieve it

John,

I agree with you, texting has certainly got out of hand. I feel out of RESPECT cell phones should be put down when you are talking to someone. Put down while driving, put down in school and church. I know some who's lives are centered around their cells. Great write.

Love and blessings,
Linda

I don't own a cell phone. Don't have a need for one. I find the interruption from cell phones ringing and endless talking even more annoying than the silence of texting. However, you're right… when someone is busy texting, they are concentrating to the point where they ignore everything around them, conversation, the beauty of the day, the car about to hit them head on…

I agree with Myrna, I don't text much and definitely turn off the phone when I want privacy or when I am out enjoying myself. You have picked an excellent subject to write about John! I see so many people who are lunching out and all they do is text during the entire meal... one of my major gripes! Life in the fast lane is not for me, I enjoy a slower pace of life and like to enjoy my spouse, family and friends when I am out or at home... so, I just put the phone away and give my full attention to whomever I am with... and... I ask them to do the same. Good write, John. I enjoyed reading your post very much. Joy

Perhaps it much better if we just shut off the phone.

I find myself doing just that, more and more,
Let others text, while I enjoy nature, outdoors.
