Like Ron, I love words and I like to be challenged with new ones. Some people just go overboard and you need a dictionary beside you when you read their work. Well penned and thought provoking write.

A plumber says it best when he's wearing loose pants and gets under the sink revealing the problem: plumbers crack! ;-)

I love words even if they are jargon. But I'm with you about trying to write "over the heads of others" in some form of impressive language often found in certain professions. When I was a doctoral student in education I recall there were two buzzwords often used at so-called "professional" meetings by highly educated individuals of merit. They would say that something was true, "irregardless." When the fact is, the word was regardless. They also liked to use when making a point that something, "centered around," whatever point they were making. One can center on something or circle (hover) around it, but one can never center around. I laughed every time I read those words in journals or heard highfalutin people say them in meetings.

But, I was told that I had to write proposals with "bullets" containing the right "buzz" words so that the reviewers would know that I was savvy to what the funding source wanted done. Yet they wanted "original" proposals.

Simple is always better. There's no need to be long-winded or pompous in poetry or prose.

I have been "Simple and Clear" my complete history. I write one poem which is a little on the hard to understand."Simple and Clear?" Mulling that over.

I agree. Points well-taken. We only have one life to live and one chance to make good friends, let's keep it that way. Life is too short to make enemies and stress.

I enjoy Authors Den poems no matter how intricate the words, you see.
Just finished a championship game of scrabble and I came in first.
So I am not intimidated by twenty-dollar words but others might be.

I have a Doctorate of Education and I could easily pour on the Glitz.
But that's unnecessary; most folks don't need to put on the Ritz.

Who wants to impress an audience or converse above the fray?
Even though some books say that "Men are from Mars"
I still LOVE and enjoy conversing "Down to Earth" anyway.

I wish I had some of those twenty dollar words to use, but I don't, so I'll just say well done.

I BELONG TO AN ON-LINE ART SITE AND IT'S BASED IN FRANCE. I ENJOY MY MEMBERSHIP AND ANY TIME I SIGN-IN I USUALLY PULL UP GOOGLE TRANSLATE BECAUSE A LOT OF THE FEED BACK I RECEIVE IS, OF COURSE, IN FRENCH AND OTHER LANGUAGES...AND HERE AND THERE, I LEARN A FEW WORDS. IT'S ALL GOOD TO ME BECAUSE IT'S IMPORTANT THAT THE WRITERS FEEL COMFORTABLE AND COMMUNICATE IN A WAY THAT IS NATURAL AND EASIER FOR THEM. I DON'T THINK ANY WRITER, ANYWHERE, PURPOSELY USES WORDS TO PUT ON A SHOW. I THINK THERE ARE WRITERS THAT HAVE THE COMMAND OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE TO THE EXTENT WHERE THEY CAN USE UNCOMMON WORDS WHICH COMPLETELY PUT THEIR POINT ACROSS. THEY ARE COMFORTABLE WITH THEIR WRITING STYLE AND WHY SHOULD THEY CHANGE IT BECAUSE SOME DON'T LIKE IT? I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THERE ARE MANY THAT ADORE IT. FOR THESE WRITERS I HAVE A DICTIONARY AND, HERE AND THERE I, AGAIN, LEARN A FEW THINGS. I DON'T FEEL INTIMIDATED BY THEM AT ALL BECAUSE WE ARE ALL WHO WE ARE AND IN OUR OWN WAY, WE ALL ARE DOING WHAT WE ARE CALLED TO DO. AND REMEMBER JOHN, THERE ARE SOME WHO ENJOY SIMPLE PROSE ALSO. Love the way you put those last seven words, but enjoyed the whole poem...-e-
