How many times we haven't wished to be part of that crowd over there, feeling like we were a solitary tree a stone throw distance from the forest?
We couldn't move, because...
Patiently waiting is a solitary tree,
giving shadows in the summer
by its roots to a never ending road
going somewhere with the wind,
the same one that carries salty drops
from a faraway unending sea.
Years after years standing still, with
branches devoid of eager children
rescuing beautiful princesses
from the flying dragons midst,
up there, where is a empty nest
long ago abandoned by small birds.
Not moving, going nowhere it is,
a road lying to waste at its feet,
with of others worlds promises
and a forest about, out of reach,
just a short traveling distance,
if it cared a few steps down the hill.
How sad one day is going to be,
when travelers' absence will let time
to erase the road without the tracks
left by the long gone walking feet,
why so, before the road's dead
that very old tree can't go
down the road and to the forest
just "that" little bit?

One could also see the distance of hope the willingness but fail to see the distance it takes. This one is excellent George a wise poem....
I often wonder how everything seems to change yet when we look back it remains the same...your poem is a beauty with much to ponder!

A beautiful piece of poetry! I believe about everyone can relate with this poem...we all get lost and sometimes we are set in a pattern and never stray for we find peace in not stirring the bees nest. I liked this!
Not only are trees rooted in place but I'm afraid people are many times rooted in place. Often that's a good thing; but some times it's not. Anyway I feel this is what the poem captures so well.

Destiny sometimes calls us to a solitary place. Some have lives richer with live while others merely seem to have been left alone by the wayside. Fruitless and baren they can only live for what they once had. Perhaps in their next life they will be among the many. You can not change this course of chosen path as the roots long grown in this old tree can be torn from it's base with out certain end. Learn your lessons well in this life so they don't need to be lived again in the next. Lady J
