I have wondered about of what it is under the human faces, are the friendly ones friendly? are the angered ones really angry or that's fear?
We all go around with a clown mask, showing the world how happy we are, are we "that" happy?
We smile at the world because it don't want to see us crying...
Sadness, a boiling water feeling
pouring over the skin of your soul,
falling afterwards like sterilized tears
of regret for something that is lost;
a desperate running to nowhere,
at full speed against a rocky wall,
your body will be like a marionette,
broken, forgotten in someone’s floor.
The lamp is flickering, waning light
from a dying oil its last few drops,
hunger gnawing at the vanishing flesh
until it will be only left, ghostly bones
of a poet that couldn’t write in darkness,
paper, quill, and ink flowing like blood,
can a man write using only shadow?
could the blinds read all those words?
Sadness, assaulting silent, mercilessly, it
want to prey on you and you don’t know
why, what have you done to deserve a
gnawing pain now feeding on your soul;
smiles going by the window of your life,
no one came in, no one did ever stop;
you are in a circus where people laugh,
no one pays to see a crying clown.
...the darkest part of sadness...sometimes a black hole...within one...surrounded by all the happiness of clown white makeup...cannot be hidden...in the theatre of tears.
well done Georg...

Life truly is a circus in many ways. And I've read somewhere that many people became circus clowns to hide their deep pain from the world around them, and to be able to smile every day, with their false faces on.
but they sure do sympathize with him ... vivid description and well analyzed ...

Sometimes the clown's face has a smile, sometimes a frown. Like the clown we need to stand on our head when we have the frown and look into a mirror for the smile. It always amzed me how all clowns, with forwns or smiles, all tried to make us laugh. Did they know something we did not know? Perhaps, in thier wandering life style, they stopped to smell the roses. Excellent write aboout sadness. Your "picture" words hit their mark.

The world does not want to see us crying..no one pays to see a crying clown just like good news doesn't sell but bad news does...so we act. Blessings, dear friend, Love holly
We all wear a different mask
some to hide what pain is present
or what is diagnosed,
some hide that pain they'll soon leave behind
we are all clowns you might say
I want to leave those, I leave behind with a smile.
Peace be with you Brother
This is a vivid and acurate portrayal of sadness, but you already knew that. Sadness envelopes the person. It's my belief, that you have to let it "run its course," all the while being on the look-out for that sliver of hope and light. If one tries to stifle sadness it only seems to 'hit you up the side of the head' when you least expect it.

All sadness comes from deep inside, Georg, sometimes we never know what the root is, it could be from another lifetime, or something genetic, or something just unexplained..
I suffer from sadness often and I turn it around always, and just look at nature and say why on earth should I be sad, look at the beauty in the world right before my eyes, and it vanishes. Sometimes, though, positive outlook doesn't quite erase some sadness, the sadness that you feel when you look at starving children, or displaced elderly, or abused women, senseless wars, but you know, you just have to smile, like this clown in your photo, and try and let the world see a happy person so joy is spread to those who are probably incapable of coming out of their sadness. Wow, sorry, I didn't mean to write so much here, but your poem triggered these thoughts.

A poignant story about letting go of a narcissist in your life. Have you ever been attacked FULL force by a narcissist? It's the closest thing to being stabbed over and over in the back.
