A painfully missed friend

This is a poem that is burned in my soul, written long time ago when I kind of died too, because friends, true friends are like brother and sisters, taking with them, when they go, a part of you that will never return.
She was that, a friend, no more and no less than that...the only one that when she went, made me weep like not other before or ever since.

Poem Artwork

I walked through frozen landscapes,
colder than my heart is none.

A meeting chance made you my friend,
forever, that stick around and never go,
but sudden illness, made with many tears,
like a burglar came, and left me alone.

Still can see your fragile hand waiving,
by the shadows on many summers,
when smiles set sparkling in your eyes
saying to us “you are the most welcome”

I heard the softly murmur, a question
reflected in your voice,
confronting destiny by asking why?
but as always it is, getting no response.

Slowly ebbing excruciating time,
it wasn’t an eagle ready to soar,
just a wounded little sparrow, a final
weak twitch on its wings an it was gone.

No one deserve to be abandoned with
such a hollow and unforgiving void,
which no tears will ever fill
and no heart could ever mourn.

No farewell as the right to be
that final, than empty of any hope,
no one can had deserved
to walk with that pain…alone.

How can one stop the wind from
blowing a soul inside a storm?
shake a hand which isn’t there or
look in the eyes that sparkle no more?

Tomorrow and again the day after,
the world will remember with daffodil flowers,
with words, butterflies, spring and the sound
of distant bells from the old church’s tower.

What is going to be left will be the silence,
the blind’s image of a dark and unknown world,
the scattered pieces of fading memories
and the far away echoes of your voice.

I walked through a frozen landscape
made of gray and cold tombstones,
I was crying your name, my friend,
but there was no one to come.

I wished to stop the hand to carve
your name in a frozen rock,
to bring yesterday when you were there
with you happy face brighter than the sun.

When your eyes were closing down I wished
to be the owner of every spoken word,
and say good-bye with a tender language,
that only you, my friend, understood.

Tomorrow will be other frozen landscapes,
but colder than my heart…will be none.

I can only say "You have moved my heart and filled my eyes with tears. This reminds me of my sons - the silence of their lives and their voices is deafening. I know your pain and sadness."

...emotional pen of such loss...in all of its pain and sadness...becomes a beautiful memory of one held forever...warm...and though it may never melt the frozen landscape...the remembrance will hold warmth eternal.

Hi Georg, this is so sad and i had a tough time writing my review for the tears your verses brought to my eyes. I can relate a hundred percent since I too, felt the same deep sorrow when I lost my mother a year ago. Beautiful choice of words, so profound and moving. It's sooo good to be back in AD and read all the wonderful works of amazing poets and writers, esp you. Thank you for sharing it and be well, my friend.

Hugs,
Sheri

Oh Georg, this one just tears my heart to shreds. The pain you carry with you inside your soul leaves an emptiness that can never be filled. You carry the memory of a close and dear friend with you wherever you go....

Be always safe,
Karen

You my friend are a master in putting feelings into words, very deep feelings at that, " Just a wounded little sparrow, - a final weak twitch on its wings and it was gone." that in essence, your friend leaving her body, and leaving you, flying to the unknown, poignant, yet the banality of death, left empty and to wonder, your heart truly speaks with the pen, you truly have transferred the feelings of the loss of a good friend, heal in the thought that there most likely is paradise, for a good friend, like you and her, matter of fact I know for certain. Bless your tender soul! Jasmin Horst
