I wrote two haikus, Before Christmas Day and After Christmas Day but put this poem in between hoping that I will see the plight of my brother and sisters in the armed forces and Veterans forever gone, because the powers that are, will honor all of them without conditions.
He wheeled his chair a little more near,
to better see the baby resting on the crib,
with His parents kneeling by the sides,
and curious shepherds wanting to see
the Messiah born from the flesh of man
as it was written eons ago in the prophesy.
He had no myrrh, no incense, or gold
to offer the child, just a few tears passively
following down every face’s wrinkles
that crisscrossed like welts both cheeks,
he didn’t came here to pray or to beg,
just his Purple Heart he wanted to give.
He couldn’t understand why his country
ignored the plight of its soldiers amputees,
preparing for Christmas with such fervor
while its Veteran soldiers had nothing to eat,
leaving them homeless in winter’s cold
while praising the Lord with their hypocrisy.
He wheeled himself out of the small chapel
to the snow covered small world of the street,
the sudden cold took hold of his trembling face
with the merciless hands of the winter’s wind,
and as he ploughed away going to nowhere
he felt crying and said, “merry Christmas to me”
"On Christmas Day" is a terrible plague of sorrow, emptyness, and lonliness, I have seen it while training at the VA hospital, and the floor of quads & paras which come ther for the holidays, or are there for lifetime stay

A writing from deep within your heart for all the forgotten vets...and people ability to see only what they want.
Georg there are Angels within the skies singing ....you have their music and it reads into the thoughts of those who understand and care so much for the plight of All those Veterans who have passed and those who still live for the day when their country truly...truly...gives them the Respect and Honor They Deserve...
You are a True Warrior at Heart my friend, and I am Honored to know you...
This is a stark, painful but all too honest and real write that tells it like it is...why do we continue to ask people to lay down there lifes for us and then when they do we brush them away like dust on a coffee table. STand tall Georg I salute you and all of your brothers and sisters.
Georg, you are an artist of the soul, a heart rendering beautiful poem, one to shine in you honour always, this should be inscribed on a historic plaque, it has eternal value for generations to read!
Bless you my friend! Jasmin Horst
I know to a smaller degree what our vets go through & if I don't get my rent paid this month (which won't happen) I may know again what it feels like to live on the street...sorry to dump...Merry Christmas oldest bro', Ed
*tears* This one hits between the eyes in effectively heartbreaking lines ... as Karen (below) alluded to, the rich get richer and the poor, well you know. And as Ted Glines (below) said, those that have not served do not see ... well done.
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
Thank YOU for YOUR service, soldier, and welcome home. All I can offer you this Christmas, but it's from a grateful heart.

Right on, Brother!!! How can ANYONE fail to hear this message? The same Christians who thump the Bible over frivolous things -- are the ones who "don't see" the homeless on their own city streets, and too many of those homeless people are veterans.
If you have time, try to get out there and post this one on a few of the busier blogs.
O, this one rips at the heart, doesn't let go! Something is wrong when the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer, especially our veterans who gave their all to serve our (great?) nation! Powerfully penned; this should NOT be!! Our veterans (from ALL wars, branches of service) deserve far better than what they are getting! God help us! I know, believe me! (Not a veteran, but sister to a veteran who struggles every month to pay bills and make it. So far we have, and it's only by the Grace of God that we have done so!)
Merry CHRISTmas anyway, and may it be your best CHRISTmas EVER!!
