The sun streams through my windows
The cat is standing on my tummy
“Its time to get up,” they both say.
I roll over hoping for 5 more minutes
But it’s not to be
My feet touch the hardwood floors
And I head to the bathroom, finished, the cat whines, Meowing
Follows me, under foot, every step
To the kitchen for his daily can (with gravy)
Coffee started, a cigarette lit, the cat now content
And I sit in my living room
Getting that 5 more minutes
Before I start the day

She never felt safe at home as a young girl, and didn't understand why when she finally escaped she wasn't safe in the big wide world either ...effectively jumping out of the frying pan into the fire!
I enjoyed the reading of "Before the day". Rhythm under the beat of harmony on wit-wise subjects.
I salute You, Poet.
