just a thing that popped into my head. it's long but worth the journey.

Death to the Poem Queen
© 2004 by Mocha Sistah

Angel wings broken and poetry powers taken away
like a thief robs an innocent person in the night.
I was taken far away from my poetry.
No poems in my head.
Hands shaking and heart quaking cause I was
in my own living hell.

Death to the poem queen!
Ever since he broke my heart
I was lost in a forest of tired dreams
and nightmares that had me
sleepwalking bullshit everyday.
Cried too many damn tears
over a situation that meant nothing to him.

Death to the poem queen.
He tried to break my spirit.
But he never counted on me
bouncing back like a basketball.
Never counted on me moving on like
a queen should when she gets tested like
I did.

Held on to my spirit like an addict cause
I knew that a brand new day was going to come.
Knew the moment he said I wasn’t “shit” that
it was time for me to go cause he was squeezing
the joy out of me at night when everyone was asleep.
Had me arguing with him at 4 am in the morning
with no resolutions.
Had me questioning myself.
What kind of insanity was this that I had allowed
to consume my beautiful spirit.

I had to let go of a situation that was going to destroy
my spirit.
Cause he never loved me anyway.
I mean, if he did, why would he use insecurity
as a weapon against my soul?
And why had he never tried to accept the me
as me?

Angel wings clipped by an evil
person who pretended to be a friend
but who really was not who he appeared.
Creating new rhymes got pushed back for just a few months while
I recovered and got some new poetry juices to push me on.
I guess he never counted on me having
my friends loving and pushing me on and being
my shields protecting me from this emotional war.

He made fun of me by trying to plant demons
near my inner circle and throwing stones at the grave
he tried to dig for me.

I wanted to dip soft lips near his deathly ones once upon a time
not knowing he was not who he said he was.
A Great Pretender he was.
He never wanted this beautiful thing that was being offered.
All he wanted to do was
break my spirit cause he hated me
or maybe he was too afraid of the pretty soul
I had become.

I always knew I was the stronger one.
Always tried to minimize my blessings cause
of his insecurity and sadness that draped his
dry ass soul.
But one day I knew it was time to go.
Let go of this situation that was going to claim me
too much of me.

Yeah, death to the poem queen
could never be completed cause
my journey was always about something more
than spitting poems and sharing soul stories.

Cause God has more plans for me
in this life than to placate to someone
who doesn’t understand the gift of love
and peace.

And I’m not mad, just sad it too me
too long to figure out the lesson.

But I’m glad its over and know I can
sing about my brand new day and continue
to share my soulstories and poetry everyday.
