it was hot
I mean sweltering
could be I weighed 60 pounds
more than I did 8 months prior
could be
my sister was parading
around in a bikini size 0
completely to my disdain
could be the cramps were coming
and going
and I was afraid
could be I was just hot
and sick of being pregnant
I think the timing is just right for
the gestation period in humans
by the time it’s time you’ll do anything
MAKE IT COME OUT
and so that day passed slowly creepily
dad was worried they wouldn’t feed me
when I went in
contributed Weinerschnitzel bad move
7 minutes apart it’s time
hospital check-in and…..
they stop
I mean completely home again
head low hating life nauseous and begging for
a gallon of wine
no mam
7 minutes again wait 5 minutes husband
begging to go
nope wait am not being sent home again 4 minutes 3 minutes
ok let’s go
ouch ouch ouch not quite maximum pain but enough to
rethink just how much fun sex is
hippy doc in birkinstocks bouncing basketball in delivery
well lets get the ball rolling, your gonna feel some water here
and the world went red now we got some serious pain
double over get me outta here don’t touch me
fuck breathing pain
four hours of it thank you every single one got me thinking
I was surely dieing
do you want drugs
eyes rolled up exorcist style well ya morphine would be grand
we’ll just put some in your IV what is it ASPIRIN
your giving me friggin ASPIRIN fine fine I’ll take whatever
ok
almost time
not yet don’t push yet
excuse me could you fucking stuff the basketball
I really feel like I have to take the biggest dump in the history
of mankind
and you’re telling me to hold back
sit up
spread em
and then my beautiful sisters each holding a leg so far apart
I know I’m going to split in two
relax ladies I’m cool here
I see the head
can you sit up
see right here
working my fingers in here just to relax the area
ok next time push push with all your might
but it feels like…… forget that just push NOW
and I’m watching this whole thing like I’m not doing it
like there’s someone else going through this routine
this baby having routine and I’m calm and very interested in the
end result
ok heads out, relax don’t push yet, let me get this nose cleared
ok how do you feel mommy think you can give me another good one
anything for you doc I love you I’ll do anything you say
ok perfect great push we got shoulders out
do you think you can lift this baby out yourself
who me NOW sure you look fine to me, just reach under the armpits
wait for the next contraction and push
I’ll be right here
great isn’t that what you get paid for
and I did
I put my hands around that tiny rib cage
and ever so gently lifted out the most beautiful baby girl
that ever was born
oh she was mad
screaming
what pain was there pain no all gone in that instant
daddy do you want to cut right here
snip
hey you better sit down you don’t look so good
and I felt like a million
daddy needs some smelling salts
grandma and aunts are dancing with hippy doctor
and I am in love
like never ever before
like no feeling that has ever existed
straight to my breast before even Apgar before cleanup
hungry beautiful baby girl
for you
the moon and all the stars
I love you
it was hot
I mean sweltering

Epic battle between right and pain. This is much better than the Delivery Room or whatever that show is on Discovery Channel.

You put me in your pain with this real life story and made me glad I am not a woman for I am convinced that I would not survive that ordeal. But you also expressed the high and joy of giving birth to such a creation from that love. Another beautiful write from my Hermana.

Oh Jo!
Tho you might imagine you cannot guess what a gift you left with me today. I am in prenatal and perinatal training -- have witnessed many birthing videos etc -- Nothing has touched the level of "experience" this took me to. And I needed it today. "daddy needs some smelling salts," I laughed and cried at once. And for your doctor to have the presence of mind that you could lift her out yourself!
This was just a huge gift. Do you mind if I share it with my pre and perinatal friends?
If I don't hear from you, I'll figure it's ok
Blessings, Vicky

this is almost how it was for me, but i was in labor for 52 hours and then had to have a c-section, so i didn't see my son born...mama was o-u-t. (military hospital...had a real weiner for a doc.) thanks for the memories. :) they say you forget the pain once the baby is born...forgeddaboudit, i remember every bit. :) back labor. the worst! i was a bitch during labor two...the doc almost became a female when i grabbed his...ahem...and tried to rip it out by the roots, 'cause he said, "you're not having as much pain as you think you are." exCUSE me???? another doc--a female--entered the room right then and took command. LOL. anyway, i ramble...this is a great write, josie! (((HUGS))) and love, karla. :)
