first house I remember
boston ave
country road
bumpy
houses sparse
pastures on all sides
cross the street
there was always a puddle
used to go stomp in it
make mud pies
all
the
time
one day noticed these
squiggly little things
grabbed my brother
older wiser
and he said
pollywogs
pollywogs that turn into frogs
ran back to the house
got a bucket
and scooped up about a million
fascinating things
some had legs
on fat little bodies
entranced I was
took em home
set it under the faucet in the front
and
forgot
about em
till
long about three days later
I heard my dad yell
what the hell…..
jesus Christ (that was me, or at least
I knew I best show up when I heard that one)
sumbitch (that was my brother, or at least
he knew he best show up when he heard that one)
so we scurry up
to see
about
a gazillion frogs
hopping jumping all over the lawn
looked like the whole damn
yard
was
alive
and dad standing there with the lawn mower
scratching his head
frogs jumping on his boots
to this day
I don’t see a frog
and remember those two hours
scooping up my growed up pollywogs
and trying to keep em
in the bucket
for the ride
home

Pollywogs are not tadpoles. Pollywogs come from that faraway place called Notlob and these "creatures" have been sent here to planet Earth to observe and grow and multiply and eventually take over and make it a safe place for all the other Notlobians to migrate because planet Notlob is dying. That's what you let loose on humanity and aren't you ashamed? As for tadpoles, well! I don't know nuthin' about the slimy little creatures. I LOVED YOUR WORD SCRAMBLE, Josephine. Delightful.
