We meet under the dark veil
Of night, caught in glimpses
Of stars and dreams of
Rainbow colored serpents with
Venomous fangs, plucked ripe
Like cheap trinkets draped
On gaudy skin. In the harsh
Light of the raunchy white
Moon, we expose bruised
Flesh and broken words
That we speak through
Parched mouths that have
Been sucked dry of our
Moist, tender, dew stained
Kisses. The artificial,
Fluorescent light hangs
Desperately next to the sweat-
Stained bed, it’s switch cold,
Like my trembling hands,
That trace the outline of
Your brazenly lit body,
Heaving under the thunder-
Ous beating of your anticipating
Heart. My body lies propped
Upon uncomfortable pillows,
Bathed in cheap, polyester
Sheets and complete nudity.
We replenish ourselves
With a humble bottle of
Strawberry wine and the
Scorching burn of stale
Cigarettes. Our bodies
Glowing, glistening in this
Artificial light, waiting
Mustering the strength to wear
Ourselves thin again. Our
Recovering libidos cry out
In this stagnant, night
Air, calling us to rise
Out of the confines of
Mind and body and join
Ourselves by the soul.
So now we together lie body
Upon body, melting like
Wax, hardening us to one
Bold, bright candle flicker-
ing, caught in the broken
Light; the jagged edges of
A mirror framed in flesh.
