The Rogue’s Tale
The shadows are my friend; I need none else, For my craft is one that you may not like. If you’re my target, you wouldn’t know it, Until the moment when I choose to strike.
Don’t assume to know me, because you don’t; I am many faces and none at all. The face you see is what I choose to show, Whenever I choose it; that is my call.
I take that which I fancy, nothing more; Yet thievery is but a single piece Of my life’s puzzle.No, you can’t solve it Without chasing those elusive wild geese.
My motives aren’t all material; I simply take joy in creating strife By taking whatever treasures I find, Whether money, one’s virtue, or one’s life.
I never sleep without one eye open, Lest I hasten the eventual day When I too will suffer the fate of fools And find my own treasures plundered away.
The shadows are my friend, but I’m not theirs, Because the game is never mine to win; Some day, my turn will come to pay the price Of ultimate devotion to my sin.

Neat poem, Robert! When I was in my late teens (a few weeks ago), this poem could have been my theme song. Love the thoughts and images and the flash from the past. Write on!
