Crushed dreams after a break-up

In Reality

“Sorry” you said, “bye”.
and abandoned ship.
as if our friendship
was only a lie.

“Did you ever care”?
I wondered aloud .
Searching a specter
Of the man I loved.

Loads of sentiments
In a twilight dance;
Strings of instruments
Of discordant sounds;

Wishes, illusions
Heaped into a mound;
Unrequited love
Was all I could find.

“Where are you?” I screamed.
Echoes filled the air.
It was just a dream.
You were never there.

Wow! Powerful poem. Break-ups are such traumatic events. You echoed my feelings when I went through a divorce. Indeed "he was never there". Good job Mary.
