then he’ll be sorry for all his freakin’ lies …

Ekphrastic ...
Taking a stab here interpreting a stencil by VATO 1984

He is disturbed. Because of his choices he lost Gretchen, his only love, and started drugs. His Father was brutal to the children and he blames him for his troubles. He refuses to forgive his Mother for never stopping his Fathers ugly tirades. His anger incapacitates him. The world is changing and he fantasizes about killing. Drugs are an escape for him. When he is high it unfurls the wings of his dreams and his poetic mind soars. When he crashes he gets repentant and then angry. He loves Gretchen. He wants to get even in any way he can.

His life is composed
Of Fathers brutality
And his bad choices

Poem Artwork
Father lied
And Mother …
She never disputed him,
NEVER!
She let him
Ruin the family,
So why am I here?
What did I do to deserve this?
All I wanted was for Gretchen and me
To be happy and my band to rock-
Is that such a big freakin’ deal?
Look at um over there in those
Goofy uniforms-
Who cares about um?
If I could I’d kill um all-
(Was I put here only to endure at the
Hands of madmen bent on domination;
Sadistic entrepreneurs of chaos)
I’ll show um,
I’ll get a gun and I’ll blow their heads off,
I’ll be a hero
And then everybody’ll wanna be me-

My h e a d hurts-
Mom said the drugs’ll kill me;
Ah, what does she know?
I feel alive when I’m high,
Like I could fly above it all,
Yah I feel like Hercules dude,
And I want to stand on a mountain
And cry out all the cool shit I’ve seen,
Oh yah …

L A D I E S A N D G E N T L E M A N

Have you been
Where I’ve been;
Where Eagles molt
And winds sculpt ridges,
Where sunlight reflects
Upon varying fleece,
Where keen fingers widen
On memories symbolic,

Oh yah I can feel it!
I’m like this big freakin’ onion man with
A treasure in the middle that don’t stink,
I’ll peel off all the layers of this lunacy
Until it disappears and then I’ll find,
Oh yah …
A pearl that’ll bring me peace,
Sweet freakin’ peace man,
And then I’ll get back on track
And I’ll be a famous poet
That everybody loves,
And my words will be wings
Flying high above all this crazy shit,
And cymbals will clash in celebration of me,
And I’ll be a legend ridin’ on the shoulders of heroes,
And horses will run boundless through mountains eternal,
And crowing winds will boast from towers made of pearl,
And sinners and saints will love one another,
And I’ll stand in magnificent shafts of light
And nobody’ll do freakin’ drugs anymore,
And I’ll write metaphors sculpted
In the hands of gods and …

Ohhhh
My head hurts,
Where are you Gretchen?
My life’s a shallow sound without you.
I miss you so freakin’ much baby,
I’m gonna show that bastard,
I’m gonna be what he said I’d never be,
And then I’ll win you back,
And then he’ll be sorry
For all his freakin’ lies

Sometimes I think intelligence can lead to frustration and destruction. It's sad to think of it being wasted. You do not waste yours, though, Richard. This is extremely different for you. The sides of the box have been punched out. Keep flying free. Hugs,
Sheila

Richard this is raw, but nevertheless my favorite style of dark writing...it's unbelievably real for far too many these days. Blessings, Holly

Richard, I was going to say that this could have been ripped off
the front page of the daily newspaper, but sadly most journalism
doesn't begin to measure up to the power of your pen. This is
powerful writing. -gene.

Nothing like busting down the walls.

I was sitting here thinking about how I write.
I made up my mind - I'ld do something different.
Then I read your poem, Richard.
This is so unlike you.
The vulgarity
"all his freakin' lies. . . ."
The humanity
Shows how people really are. . . .
Liars
Beneath those frozen smiles.
All those wretched dreams that stretch out for miles
Patting you on the back all the while. . . .

They couldn't wait to watch you fall
Along with your walls.

Time for a Reality Check.
And you give us one.

Beyond the realms of well done.

A classic interpretation - Ekphrastic - of the artists sketch.
A new word...a new form...one to remember, Richard. So full of sadness, yet believable. Thank you for your cleverness, friend!!

Richard -

What can I say that hasn't already been said? This left me with a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, heart squeezing with emotion, reading this disturbed young man's life, his apathetic life - the anger! No wasted words or motion, just in yer face - kind of like this young man - excellent.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

"...sadistic entrepreneurs of chaos..." you could had been writing about "them" the ones supposed to be the parents, although there wasn't a Gretchen.
No doubts about you going on a total different path, the darker one that descend dungeons stairs.
But then, haven't we all a dark side?
Extraordinary well, my friend, extraordinary well!

Georg

Such a different write for you Richard. It's so well done that it gave me chills. So many lost souls walking amongst us. Some we recognize some we don't, not even in our own circles.

What a sad, kick you on the ass poem, Richard. Of course I associated it with my own life, as we are wont to do. I wonder what it is that makes some, such as I, who was hellbent on destruction find a way out of that mindset, when others follow it to the end of the road. Literally. Which I have not set the world on fire, I, unlike this poor creature, at least was able to connect with my children after so many decades. To me that is a good thing and well worth the effort to "straighten up." Wonderful poetry, but then I didn't expect any less when I came here.
