with all manner of fearful brooding...

Sometimes it takes a debilitating injury for a soul to honestly examine their life and purpose. To effectively pierce the pall of pretense, that often accompanies creative individualism, is to see how perfectly alone, chronically opinionated, and self-consumed each of us can get at times. “Sometimes you wear a mask for so long you forget who you were beneath it.” (Alan Moore - ‘V for Vendetta’)

It’d been a challenge
fraught with the unexpected,
one that acceded to the unknown,
in a place where weakness and confusion
became as ravaging fangs ripping at
reason, fortitude, focus, faith…
And having been rendered
WEAK, where strength had crowed,
ASSAILABLE, where ramparts had loomed,
UNNERVED, where resolve was once steadfast;
adversity forced self-confidence
down to its knees;
and in the mind, where
creative waters once flowed freely,
this condition became as stagnant pools…
But how
wondrous it was
to finally stand free,
able to walk again,
without assist,
without vexation, as
rays of hope pierced through
the miasma of a debilitating injury;
a dark gloomy place where dire
thoughts had once caballed
(in sinister whispers)
to sap strength
and vitality,
and to badger relentlessly
with all manner of fearful brooding

Able to walk again, without assist.... That just a great blessing, Richard! Thanks for sharing it with us!
clearing the mind
restoring hope.
And so very well stated.
Rays of hope in manner to grip beyond the fear.
Excellent.
