Poem Artwork
Not that it makes
much difference any longer,
how circumstance played into all
we'd imagined, how it slipped the moments
without even whispering, how it (so deftly) thrust
something further along in time that dissembled
those parts of us neatly inclined…
.
But I was willing,
without questioning, to
journey beyond forbiddance,
treading lightly the tenuous surface of
open-heartedness; to go where inspirations led;
to satisfy all curiosities with no regrets or self-reproach
.
So we embarked, (together),
in all hopefulness of succeeding.
With no apprehensions or inhibitions,
seeking out new aspects and facets in the
whirls of living’s finely-spun web…
.
Stretching eager arms wide,
to all aroused within us, we both
shunned the controlling aspects that seemed to
accompany our fears (always) to allow the marrow of
our quest its inscription upon a free parchment of prospects-
.
But as it turned out,
despite what we undertook, and,
after being torn from our confluence by a
force greater than fragile inspiration could endure;
our one path (together) became two alone…
.
Now, in silent contemplations (only) do the
unfeigned memories of misguided efforts continue.
And as each day
fades into slumbers, I
recall (at times) with curiosity,
the hardy disposition we both embraced in
our attempts to avoid pitfalls, as we traversed all
creative bounds (self-imposed or otherwise) with a kind
of wild abandon that, in my mind, will always remain sterling …

A SHARING THAT WE ALL CAN RELATE TO. FOR IN EACH LIFE...THERE HAS BEEN AT LEAST 'ONE' WHO TOUCHED OUR HEARTS IN SUCH A WAY THAT WE MOST GLADLY EMBRACE THAT OLD CLICHE'...'BETTER TO HAVE LOVED AND LOST THEN NEVER TO HAVE LOVED AT ALL...' NOW, OF COURSE YEARS LATER AND WALKING IN 'HIS' LIGHT, WE CAN UNDERSTAND 'THE WAY' AND 'THE WHY' OF THINGS, BUT THEN SHROUDED IN OUR OWN SELVES...WE DID NOT. I CAN NEVER UNDERSTAND THE ANGER OF REVENGE THAT ONE FEELS FOR ONE THAT THEY SAY THEY REALLY LOVED?! FOR IF YOU REALLY LOVED THEM...YOU DO NOT WISH THEM EVIL...YOU JUST DON'T. I DON'T GET IT AND SINCE THIS RANCID FEELINGS OF 'PAYBACK' SEEMS TO BE THE WAY OF THE WORLD... I THANK GOD THAT I AM SO...DUMB...I DO NOT!!! THUS, AT THE MARROW OF OUR QUEST...THERE HAS GOT TO BE THE APPRECIATION FOR HAVING KNOWN AND AT LEAST 'TOUCHED' REAL LOVE, AND THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE. ENJOYED AND THANKS RICHARD...LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

When the inevitable is not in our favor, it is the most desecrating hollowing of something beautiful. Sadly, having everything going for you two, as lovers or friends, was not enough to overcome something dismal. I hate it when that happens knowing that you truly desire and love the person but no matter how hard you try something is truly more powerful; furthermore, that it is viewable and painfully obvious the whole time. After the fall of it, we will have a hole in ourselves that will never be filled by anyone else no matter how good they can be with us.

yes, 'but as it turned out, . .' our internal (moral) standards are always under the test of external terms and conditions we meet with every single day to find out our status here and now. Some of us are inclined to match themselves with others, some wisely compare themselves with them of yesterday. But the true sterling is always there to be named 'the middle way.' A piece of a deeply meaningful quest, the marrow of all marrows in practice. (and the image of Yin's Yang and Yang's Yin is to the point.) Cheers, alex

I often think this thought "...our one path (together) became two alone…" as the secret to relationships, be they domestic or business. Buddies, partners, lovers, no one is exempt from one day or another discovering everyone must be prepared for the one path becoming two alone.

Reads like the history of a marriage. Seeking explanations for why/what happened, but still not fully satisfied.

Stretching eager arms wide, is there any other way to live? I love the entire poem but it is the segments when plucked apart that undo the mind and the soul of the reader, Thank you dear poet, x
