Poem Artwork
PART ONE… Thematic
.
It seemed (in a dream)
That I saw many orchids
Drowning in the rain
A petal blurred horizon
Seeking deeper clarity
.
But unlike fish
My originality
Swims without gills
Writing one breath at a time
.
Believing always
That words will land on the screen
Understandably
.
I step gingerly
On slick stones and cross the rill
And when I look back
The stones remain as they were
As if I’d never been there
.
Perception varies
In a shifting atmosphere
Despite what I think
These yellow chrysanthemums
Seem washed white in the sunlight
.
Certain small verse may
Elicit surprise or doubt…
So what! Let them out
.
Let poetry be
An ever-flowing runnel
Finding its own path
Meandering streams have their
Reasons for meandering
.
Let poetry be
A sharpened samurai sword
Piercing through all doubts
.
Let poetry be
The perfumed breeze of evening
A naked presence
Slowly exposing a souls
Aching desire to know God
.
PART TWO… Stand-alone
.
Structured writing is
Like balancing on a wire
Hoping not to fall
.
Crashing white lightning
A commotion of sparrows
Snagging fresh insects
.
Little brown spider
Struggles in the wash-basin
The sides are too steep
.
Unless he’s dreaming
Even the greatest archer
Cannot hit the moon
.
Her freckly young face -
Like a map of unknown stars -
Melts an old man’s heart
.
All the noisy crows
In my pomegranate tree
Please go peacefully…
.

Noisy crows in my pomegranate tree is not a title that would ever surface in my head. It's too poetic, and it reminds me of what a truly gifted artist you are. Superb!

Well, as usual with you, Richard, I learned a new word, as I would be lost without what you teach me every time I read of you...-e- (a little on the HOT side out your way of late, has it been?)

Some spectacular vignettes captured here in simple verse. Poetry has its own imagination and shares everything it gives. John

Those crows can provide great inspiration if I read Poe correctly.
