The beach is abandoned. She descends the wooden stairs waving. We walk silently through shifting sand-grass. Her perfumed hair is intoxicating. Soon we are at the water’s edge. In the distance two blue feluccas sail in tandem. Waves foam white on the sand. Pulling up her gauzy dress she dips her toes gingerly in the water. Above us seagulls palaver in cool morning air.

Two dreamers begin to sense
The other’s desire

We are drawn to the wild-raspberry bramble near the cliff base. I squeeze one. Juice squirts between my fingers. Her expression deepens. She points out at the surf-line where seagulls are pecking at something. Two hearts speak mysteries. Onshore breezes pick up. The gauzy summer dress slips easily from her shoulders. Wordlessly I watch.
