Her Teddy-Bear Pillow

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

Characterization. Her struggle (for now) with unanswered love.

Tuesday, June 25, 2019

Poem Artwork
It seemed a
thing unprocurable-
this true love she sought…
.
But save for the
warmth of morning sun,
her heart remained as untouched
as the cold splashes and whirls
in byzantine labyrinths…
.
And there were times
she cried in quiet desperation,
.
a swept soul clutching
her teddy-bear pillow,
moist with the tears
of unrequited yearning …
.
For now, she was
reconciled to a life of
airy-musings, a starry-eyed
dreamer evincing her strengths
through a prism of forbearance…
.
And each day
she found hope in
countless imaginations,
and each night she held close
a tear-stained pillow . . . . . . . . waiting...

Young child hurting or lost woman. Teanager wanting or? His poem leaves me wandering. Brings me to my younger years where I spent a few years saving forgotten Teddy Bears from Girls grown beyond the need. Or so the thought.

The hopeless romantic. I'm guilty as charged.

I think one could read this as a small neglected child desperately wanting to be loved by her parents, there is such a deep sadness here.

A FINE PROSE WORK, RICHARD THAT CERTAINLY TOUCHES THE HEART AND, FOR ME, BROUGHT FORTH EVEN DEEPER THOUGHTS. IT WAS THE PHOTO THAT PROMPTED THEM. FOR, WALKING INTO THE SAD WORLD OF HER BEDROOM, THERE BEING ENTIRELY UNNOTICED AND OVERLOOKED, WITH ITS 'TRUE VALUE' NEVER EVEN A PHANTOM ...ONE WOULD HARDLY NOTICE THE LARGE, WORN TEDDY BEAR SITTING IN THE CORNER. NEVER GUESSING THAT THE SEEMINGLY DISCARDED OLD THING WAS SO 'CHERISHED AND NEEDED' FOR COMFORTING CONSOLATION, OR, THAT IT WAS THE BELOVED CATCHER OF SECRET TEARS. A MARVELOUS SHARING, THANK YOU RICHARD. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

By your portrayal, she led a very sad existence. Makes me wonder what drove her in that direction and why she couldn't find the love she desired.

It's amazing how much comfort one can derive from a teddy bear.
I gave my mother one and she called it her "Johnny Bear"
The main reason for this gift was so she could receive my hugs when I was not able to be with her. The expressions on her face said it all. It was a priceless gift and besides being with her, it was the best gift of all.
Amen

A damn good write. In today's world, when 2 people meet, they immediately think this is it, I found my true love, and then they move in together. And then when relationship problems begin, they're ill equipped to deal with them, so the relationship ends on bad terms. And then they will move right into another one, still carrying the baggage from previous relationships. It seems like it's better to be in any relationship than none. I think everybody should learn to live alone, learn responsibility, and find out who you are, before committing oneself to another person.

There is something so comforting about the holdings of a

well worn out teddy. It saddens me that there are so many

young souls looking for their soul mate these days and not

finding them. The reasons are many , but it seems the time

essence is missing , the intimacy and the attachment.

I counsel young people and it seems they are in dire need of

true long lasting relationships, I pray for this world and the

young Richard, I'm sure you understand. Please join your heart to mine in this askance of love . Until then, thank God for the comfort of Teddies. xo

THIS is one magnificent write, Richard. To yearn desperately for love, but ever finding it is reason enough for a "tear-stained pillow."
