In the rain alone (walking)

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

PORTRAYAL 8. Since she was a kid, she’s seen the world differently than others.

Poem Artwork
In those days,
she saw everything
through artless eyes, in ways
others never imagined; like the
sparkly filaments connecting the stars
that freewheeled through her senses.
She was convinced somehow, that
imagination was a facet of the
Creator’s image,
and that regardless
of all she was feeling, it
only mattered what she saw…
.
A leaf in the wind
a speck on the glass
she saw what she wanted
this innocent lass
she saw the whole world
in a small grain of sand
she held with delight
in the palm of her hand
.
I remember
her never being like
the others growing up,
never expressing like they did,
nor did she imagine as they did.
From childhood, it seemed,
she was a vagabond seed,
(in life’s garden) always
searching for a place
to plant herself, to
root, and to find love…
.
Free-spirited girl
she’d search every day
she’d drift and discover
with little to say
she’d see the whole world
in a small drop of rain
she’d hold as a gem
in a palm without stain
.
Oh, how she’d
marvel at times when
sunshine filled her room -
at various angles - and how
in the afternoon it would
form shapes dancing
on the walls she
pretended were angels, sent
to guard her, to teach her, and
as daytime faded into nighttime,
she would sing to them softly,
.
Stay here my lovely’s
protect me tonight
the sun is retreating
soon gone from my sight
in spite of my sadness
and all that I’ve keened
you still give me eyes
to see the unseen….
.
She’s often content on stormy days now, she told me… that way,
when she’s in the rain alone walking, no one will ever see her tears.

A delightful, intuitive piece…
I appreciate the way she sees the world…
The last two lines…
So wistful and sad, but so revealing…

I really like your chosen picture too…

Such a lovely read. I like how she sees the world. It seems to me that most people have a different way of viewing the world and how to live in it. A lot of times, positive views carry us safely through all seasons in life.

A free spirit who appreciated nature and perhaps sang or wrote poetry. But the world changes us. The cynic in me sees her frustration and sadness as she hides her tears.

An interesting portrayal of a very sensitive soul, perhaps attuned to a "different drummer." It is almost as if you know her, and I can see by what you wrote, that she may be one of the poets that I read here quite often.

She certainly caught your eye, and by your writing, she has caught mine, too.

I LIKE HOW YOU TAKE THE READER THROUGH THE STAGES OF AN IMAGINARY LIFE...INNOCENCE, CONTENTMENT, ACCEPTANCE, LONELINESS. THIS BROUGHT TO MIND JOHN HERLIHY'S JUST SHARED WORK, 'IN PRAISE OF NORMALCY'. WE ALL MAKE CHOICES THAT, IN THE END, WE MUST ACCEPT THE RESULTS OF. SO THEN...ALONE...BUT NEVER ALONE. FOR THOUGH OTHERS MIGHT NOT SEE HER TEARS, I'D LIKE TO THINK SHE IS VERY AWARE, THERE IS 'ONE' THAT DOES...AND CATCHES THEM IN 'HIS' BOTTLE. I ENJOYED THIS SHARING IMMENSELY, RICHARD, THANK YOU...LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

I love as well walking in the rain, for possibly the same reason and then again not...this poem speaks to me, though what it says I cannot fathom...-e

What stupendous talent you own. Let me clarify, this is your poem and you have it in a book called "between the cracks?"
Would it be oka if I read it aloud one day on youtube. I absolutely adore it.
