Snow Owl (turns back)

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

A Laguna Mountains experience. Poetic flash non-fiction.

Poem Artwork
Restless wind
and louring skies
all ignored by piercing eyes
wings spread out on sudden gust
it does exactly what it must….

From a darkened forest,
a parliament of snow
owls fly north
over a sprawling meadow,
laced now in cerulean twilight….
.
Wonderingly, Michele watches,
her owl-feathery hair tousled
in quicksilver breezes…

Camera in-hand,
she takes note
as a lone
snowy turns back
seeking sustenance….
.
Turning tail,
field mice run
to no avail….
.
Restless wind
and louring skies
all ignored by piercing eyes,
talons splayed, it swoops to kill,
then snatches up, and eats at will…
.
“Eewww,” she shudders…

Sir Richard the Empyreal ...

I've seen this bird of prey before.
He moves in silence.
He travels lightly who travels with God's grace.

Never rest your quill dear companion ...
Light and Wisdom ...

Wonderful images of nature as it is, as it must. So many experiences await the photographer in the forests and mountainsides of nature's final resting ground. Loved this one.

A beautiful bird, camouflaging against the snow. And a superb hunter. You have captured the essence of the snowy owl and your encounter with it so beautifully in this highly descriptive poem. I have heard that they may be endangered.

And so nature takes it course. We are a part of it; but we don't always understand it. Fine description.

Owls have to eat too just as we all do, a raw meal is much more of interest and the owl had his full, lucky guy...-e-
