15 Pinecones (with a Bristlecone dénouement)

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

Strong. Adaptable. Tenacious. Deeply rooted. Against all odds. A survivor. A purge of poetic pinecones (Haikus, traditional and non-traditional) with a Bristlecone dénouement.

Poem Artwork
Imagination,
the essence of a hearts most
reflective insights
.
Clinging to the leaves
myriad raindrops sparkle
after the downpour
.
Wet leaves
on a wet black bough
flowers droop during the rain
.
Blue gray Agave
this thorny century plant
dies after blooming
.
The snow falls softly,
moistened fat feathery flakes
whiten the hillsides
.
Front row seats,
a whiff of the
actresses perfume
.
What is it she
does to undo me
delicately in layers
.
A blur of sameness
one moment lost to the next
everything passes
.
In a crowd
faces fade in and fade out
like apparitions
.
His poetizing
mixes cheesy sentiments
with dishonesty
.
Resentful response
reveals an ill-bred reader
who wrongs the writer
.
Let purging make known
(in all ways) your true st thoughts,
joyfully embraced
.
Let poetry be
feelings weaving atmospheres,
words that wrap the heart
.
A man is not old
until regrets start taking
the place of his dreams
.
Bristlecone pine thrives
in most godforsaken climes
a true survivor
.
BRISTLECONE
.
Oldest Pine survives through time
through harshest climates lasting
it stands its ground against the gale
determined bark- a hero’s tale
.
In harshest climates where they grow
this Pine unmoved through wind and snow
with branches out of symmetry
you force your roots down deeply
.
In arid air, devoted tree
long has nature battered thee
but still you thrive in harmony
and all that see you must agree
.
Your silent history yet untold
for time itself’s entwined in you
your strength against adversity
adapted you most perfectly…

The Bristlecone Pine ‘Methuselah’ (not pictured) is thought to be the oldest living organism on Earth. It can be found in the ‘Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest’ in Inyo County near Big Pine in Eastern California. ‘Methuselah’ has a verified age of 4,853 years. The specific location of this tree is a very closely guarded secret.

Let poetry be, you are one poet that I can count on to let poetry be what it was meant to be, "Inspiring" with a big dose of honesty.
Continue to rev my eyes with more of your beautiful haikus, Richard.

While California is one of the more geologically new parts of the North American continent, its rather stable climate has allowed three ancient living things a place to live very long: the Bristlecone Pine, the giant Sequoia and Coastal Redwood.

A beautiful homage to a survivor. And a reference to surviving the onslaught of ill wishes that bounce off, are swatted like flies, and often have very short lives.

Fascinating imagery brought curiously to life in these remarkable short poems (haikus). Brilliant work.

These are sublime and profound and melodic and fascinating. I love them all, the Haiku and the Bristlecone. These are completely beautiful and just the lines I wish I could memorize, if I had the ability. Colossal enjoyment! ~~ djl (recent experience with #11)
