Poem Artwork
Having no keen ear
for the blathering yammer
of leathery-faced bureaucrats,
heart sought a home dedicated
to wisdom truth and peace,
where a pure waterway
roared with fortitude past
crumbling towers of preconception,
where integrity reflected past and present,
and where forgiveness put to rest the
stench of an onerous list of sins…
.
Besieged daily
by the nattering
of celebrity seekers,
seeking success
as an act of revenge,
where a dais above all others
would fulfill some twisted dream
of being worshipped by those who adore
flesh and bone enigmas, rising and falling in
televisions constantly disposable cycle
.
And all the clowns hoicked
in their mad-delusional-dance,
.
as wisdom sought to cut through
the phoniness, to expose deception,
with strong iron ears ingesting
any significance briefly,
crushing
the counterfeit,
reaching out for TRUTH,
hoping to rediscover excellence
somewhere expressed with a fervency
learned from foolish failures revived in honor
.
And where, in the hopefulness of finding
new direction, spiritual discernment
laid bare all repetitions of failure,
everywhere,
the sins
and foolish choices
of men and women shunning
integrity because what they’d done
had not returned to them what they desired
.
Society pressures each of us
with mythic winds and paradoxes
and the blabbing lies of talking heads
.
It was quite clear to us
(mulling these things) that
we peopled a planet ever more
subjugated to self-centeredness
brokenness aloneness hearsay
handwringing deception
border chaos
worsening weather
political cons hiding
behind notions, and all
darkened levels of dishonor...
.
For us, there was no tolerance
for foolishness, or yowling ninnies,
or those who hate for the sake of hating,
or those whose conceit affects American policy,
WISDOM sought a life less complicated,
where our kids and grandkids
learn how to think,
not what to think, and where
forthrightness, forgiveness, excellence,
respect, Truth, Light, and Love, prepare the soul
for the eventual revealing of A NEW RACE OF HuMANS,

Thank you Richard for keeping a firm foundation and keeping it real of what so many feel but never write.. My rock is my faith in this forsaken atmosphere.. Light always wins and that is my only sphere of strength I stand. Yes we are called to let our light shine and this is our armor through to the end and then we glorify God eternally...Wow.. Yes this earth isn't my real home

WITHOUT QUESTION...AS WE PERSEVERE THROUGH THIS 'DECAYING MASS' THE HOPE OF ALL THOSE WHO WATCH AND WAIT...IS IN WHAT WILL BE REVEALED IN THE NEW HEAVEN AND NEW EARTH. FOR, ALL THINGS WILL BE PURE THERE...EVERY TRACE OF THE PRINCE OF THIS EARTH'S AIR WILL BE OBLITERATED AND A NEW RACE OF HUMANS WILL EXIST IN THE BOUNDLESS LOVE AND ENLIGHTENMENT OF GOD, ETERNALLY. THIS 'CERTAINTY' IS SOMETHING THAT ENCOURAGES US AND BUILDS UP OUR FAITH...AS WE ENDURE, AND PRESS ON. A FINE INSPIRATIONAL WORK. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Ah! Daily sadness at the state of our world. Yet, allowing ourselves to forgive the insanity of it all, we live within our own sphere, our own community where we can smile, love others and thank God for our blessings.

God bless Richard.

I only hope you are right about the NEW RACE OF HUMANS!
The lines that stands out for me:

where our kids and grandkids
learn how to think,
not what to think

Let us all continue to reach out for TRUTH
and hopefully to rediscover excellence…

A powerful, thought provoking piece…

Wow, Richard, this was a journey you took us on. Fascinating word usage and phrases make this no small assimilation of language. It’s like yin and yang are squaring off in the spin of the state of being with human behavior. My favorite parts are: “crumbling towers of preconception” and “hoping to rediscover excellence,”…all/darkened levels of dishonor…” And I love that you put those last five words in all caps. Just so. ~~ djl

You have really described the state of play quite well in all its negativity, and thankfully you end of a note of positivity. So well expressed, Richard.

I agree with your last stanza, but what we teach our kids and grandkids at home may be untaught and unlearned by their teachers in school. Our children and grandchildren are most vulnerable right now. Their minds are being poisoned by the politicians' lies and false promises.

Not only our children and grandchildren are victims of lies, but even the grown adults are also being fed lies and they would believe it. All this is just a process of brainwashing our future generations.

where our kids and grandkids
learn how to think,
not what to think, and where
forthrightness, forgiveness, excellence, this statement is so true, in a world where we are told what to think and how to feel, its nice to know we still have the freedom to choose how to feel. You have such a wide range of vocabulary when you write Richard, I learn something from you every time I stop in to read your poetry. Thank you for sharing another heart felt poem, none of your poetry leaves me indifferent, I assure you

Much to unpack in this dialog of societal mask-wearing, a global malaise spending far too much time masquerading that which is thought to attracting the praise and recognition of those who left the idea of seeking wisdom at somewhere following birth. When will people fully realize that only what you truly represent as an creation of integrity will be remembered. (Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong) Good doG, living the lives, as this chronicle of woes depicts, only conjures up the thought, "Do people really think their names and images represent what they are here for?" This textual-dissection of extricating the masks of those who think so is well worth multiple readings. Bravo!
