Weatherworn green doors,
A rotting washed-out façade,
educing perhaps
the inexorable path
of senescence and decline…

A curious cat
glares at the photographer,
(territorial)
perhaps he’s getting too close
to her kindle of kittens…

THE OLD HIKER.

A late autumn walk
Fallen leaves crunch underfoot
Winter is nearing…
.
In a mirrored pond
Two fish jump up and splash down
Ripples reach the shores
.
On the horizon
Like a decoy predator
Thunderheads nearing
.
An old hiker's woes
Descend like an unwanted
Cloak of miseries
.
She isn’t prepared
For the approaching downpour,
She mulls heading home
.
A sudden rustling…
A blur of fur races past,
Helplessness whelms her
.
To allay her fears
She begins singing loudly,
The wolf circles near
.
The sound intrigues him
With head cocked, and eyes intent,
He paws at the ground
.
Listening keenly
He recognizes her voice,
She’s hiked here for years
.
Woofing back softly
He trots off into the woods
And fades in the trees
.
A parched forest sighs
The late fall rain is welcomed
A process begins…
.
Ten million raindrops
And in ev’ry single drop
Reflections abound
.
A slab of smooth stone
Mirrored with early morning rain,
Her smile reflected…...
.
