You saw
me that day,
all but empty,
lost, struggling
in a desolate place,
with little to share, an
unfinished poem on a
yellowing page, unsure,
pulling back, losing hope….
.
You spoke
Truth that day,
in a way I’d only ever
read about…. and as the
murmuring of a long
forgotten dream,
the soft rays
of your
warm wisdom
filtered down into
my darkest shadows,
and opened my
heart in a way
I’d never known….
As time passed, you
revealed in me where
the rivers and tides
collided along the sea,
and those neglected places
where I stood alone bleeding,
and all the scars from the wars
I’d fought and won,
and then,
with compassion,
you cast a light on the
broken things in me worth saving….
.
And in time
you became more
than a dream, more
than the scent of night jasmine,
or a distant snowcapped Fujiyama,
or those heavenly heights of promise….
We became a home, a safe haven
where two souls,
focused and strong,
would walk as one together,
for ourselves, and for our children,
and for their friends, and their children,
through all the
pain and sadness,
the highs and lows,
the storms and trials, and
all those turbulent waters where
the rivers and tides collided at the sea….
.
You saw
me that day,
all but empty,
lost, struggling
in a desolate place,
with little to share, an
unfinished poem on a
yellowing page…. but you
loved me still all the same…..
